Subject: Lift and tires

Message:
I have a 2wd '02 QC and want to lift it with bigger tires. I have stock 16x8's and a shop around here said the best thing to do is a 3" sup lift with 30" tires and 16x8 wheels because no larger tires would fit. What is the difference btwn a sup lift and a body lift? If I did a 3" body lift instead would I be able to fit 31" or 33" tires with 16x8 rims? Or could I do 15x8 rims and would that fit with my stock set up?
I am obviously a little new to lifting, any help is appreciated. Thanx!

it is alittle bit harder to find bigger tires that fit 16" wheels...that's why most people are running 15" wheels with 32 or 33" tires with just a 3" body lift...the difference in the two lifts is just that...a body lift lifts the body off the frame 3 inches...and a suspension lift lifts the whole truck resulting in more chassis ground clearance...price is also a hugeeeee differnce...a body lift is somewhere around 150-200 bucks...and a suspension lift is about 1000...and then you have to add install on top of those prices...at the moment I'm running completely stock but hope to do a 3 inch body lift and put some 32" tires on a nice set of 15" wheels...hope this helps!

yeah, I just ordered a 3" sup lift, 30" tires and new 16x8 rims. He said 15" rims would not fit a stock set up, something about the brake set up or something. Is this right or am I getting screwed. I am paying $1100 for 3" sup lift installed, but if I could get the body lift and bigger tires on my stock rims and save a crap load of money I would rather do that.

You aren't getting ripped off. He is correct about the 15x8 rims not fitting the stock setup. If you go with the suspension lift, you'd have to purchase a set of rims that have an offset of 3.75 or less. you can squeeze in 4.00, or if you are lucky, u can get 5.00 like i did. I just relocated teh brake lines. Just go to Raised Dakota forum and read "bj's truck" post. I already explained this in there.

Don't listen to chaximus, he is wrong. 15 inch wheels will work fine. You want a 15x8 wheel with around 5" backspacing. 3.75 or 4.00" backspacing pushes the tires out. Some may like that look and some may not. I personally do not. Not only is it illegal in my state but it puts extra stress on the wheel bearings and front end.

ah, i might stand corrected here but after 99' dodge went with a bigger braking system and differnt placing of the brake lines on 00' and up trucks thats why there not offered with 15in wheels from the factory .

Sorry chaximus for saying you are wrong. I should have read the post properly. I didn't notice he wanted a suspension lift on a 2wd.

you should be able to get larger then 30 inch tires. I'd go 31 or 265-75-16 I had 265-70-17 almost a 32 and I barely had to trim my fenders and I had 5.00 of backspaceing.

that is what I actually got is the 265/75-16's, measures out to about 30.50/10.5.I was just hoping to squeeze in a a 32 but I can't find one, not too many tires for the 16" wheel. Who makes the 265/70-17, is that a Pro Comp?

You should be able to fit 31" tires absolutely fine on a 2wd with a 3" lift. You could probably even run 32"s. y2kota over at www.DakotaUSA.com is running 31"s on his stock height 2wd, and many 4x4's are running 32"s on their stock height Dakotas. With 3" of lift, you will be the same height as stock height 4x4s.
