WHAT THE HELL ARE TORSION BARS. ALL I HAVE SEEN IS THAT PEOPLE SAY THEY HAVE CRANKED THEIR TORSION BARS TO GET MORE HEIGHT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE OR WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED.

I've got a '96 dakota 4x4 and I want to lift it. I know I need blocks in the back. How do I crank the torsion bars up and get more height? Is there a limit?

Thanx

Yeah! As far as the Bolt will tightenbut I would not go that far. Leave a few threads still showing on the bottom.

Does this affect the ride quality at all? Does it put any unnecessary stress on any of the suspension components?

Thanx,

Yes and kind of Yes but I think the larger tires are putting more stress on the front steering and drive components than the torsion bars.

crankin torsion bars will give you some lift for free, but it may be worth either simply lifting the truck or at least installing a leveling kit (thats what i would do in your case) and because the rear already hits higher than the front. Raising the torsion bars will give you a little less ride quality but if thats what you choose to do then definately follow foreX4's advice and leave AT LEAST a couple threads.

Where can you find a leveling kit for a 4WD, how much?

Trying to plan mods for my new truck when it comes in...

Leveling kit??? I think the best way to level out your truck is by measuring from the center of you hubs to the bottom of the fender well. If all measuremments are the same then you should be pretty level. At stock you should level out somewhere around 22" or 23" front to back with a couple turns on the torsion bars.
