I have a 1988 Dakota LE 4X4 with 184K miles on it. Neve rhad a problem and I have used 4X4 extensively during winter on the highways ( often faster then 55) My transfer case now has problems banging out of gear. I think I need a new one, any idea the cost or who can rebuild? ( After all these years and the abuse, It was bound to go someday! :)

Brand New - $1600.00
Used - $600.00 - $800.00

Dont Know about rebuilt. I just replaced mine after it blew up..parts are still over I-90 in New York.
Anyways, you can do it yourself...takes about 12 hours with two people...and air tools. No lift is REQUIRED, but would have been handy. A coupld floor jacks works great though.

Thanks, I would get a used one in a junk yard but after reading some post on here I think it wouldn't be practicle. Seems they go out a lot! :)
Where can I find the parts to rebuild?
