IP: Logged

can i put 32x11.5x15 on stock rims. I have a 1999 5.2 v8 4x4. arent these 8 inches wide? The guy at the tire place said he wouldnt mount them because my wheels wont be wide enough or some thing, however every where i looked on the web said the approved rim width is 8"-10". Has anyone done this and or is this bad to do, is this guy right on wat he said?

My truck is a 2000 QC, It depends what style you have, I know dodge put a narrower 7 inch wide rims on some dakotas. If your rim has a solid center with 5 solid bars coming off of it, you have 7 inch wide rims, but if it has a solid center with five bars that are divided in halves you have eight inch wide rims. I believe most of the dakotas with the bigger tire package had the eight inch wide rims.

I am running 33 x 12.50's on my 15 x 7" rims and have no problems. I have been doing this for some time and have even tread wear and have had no problems with alignment or any such anomolies. Most 99 Durangos and Dakotas came with 15x7 inch wheels. If you are really concerned about the wear or mounting the tire run them about 3 - 5 psi lower than normal to widen the footprint.

I have a three inch body lift. Im not messing with the front suspension because its giving me so many problems. I have 43000 miles and im on my forth alignment. Ive had to replace the passenger side ball joint, and my R&P unit has started leaking, so Im going to have that checked out. Im really starting to dislike this frontend, but I actually never was fond of it.

I have a 99 CC and just put 32X11.5 BFG ATs on. I didn't have to do any trimming, but they do rub a little on the frame when cranked to the left. I did level the truck out with the torsions bars, and have the stock rims.

Steve,

You can run the 32X11.50 on either the 8" or 7" rim, it doesn't matter, and it will look fine, definetly better than stock. People run 12.50s on the 8" rim all the time so the 11.50s on either rim will do fine. Get the tires and then have the tire shop or off-road shop crank the torsion bars to even everything out and make sure you don't get rubbing.

You definetly don't want a 10" rim with 11.50 tires cause you won't have enough tire lip protecting the rim. If you go 12.50 then you go 10" rim. Otherwise the 7" or 8" rim will do fine with 11.50s.

Anyway, in another thread on the Raised Dakota board, one of the guys was saying that a good rule of thumb is to go 4" bigger than the rim size. so if you have 15x8's, you could go 12.5.
