Subject: Bigger tires vs. street performance...
IP: Logged

Message:
what kind of street performance gains/losses would I expect on upgrading to a 30-32 inch tire .. possibly a set of baja hp's? .. I'm a speed nut but need traction in the mountains for the winter. Speed is my main concern, will I take a big hit on acceleration?

thanks!

I have 32" tires now on my 2000 4x4 with a 4.7L. You will lose lots of torque. If you want speed performance don't do it.

A stock Dakota is great place to start

Maybe.Ihave a 92 and if you have a gen II like me , your stock tire size is 235/75-15 , which is a 29" tire.My stock 5 spd. is geared pretty low(getting started in 2nd no problem)and a 30" inch tire wouldnt change things too much, an auto.tran. would probably be a different story. If traction is your concern , dont be concerned with the size of your tire, be concerned with th tread pattern. You want an aggressive pattern with alot of space between the tread blocks , particularly in the shouder area (where the tread meets the sidewall). If you are determined to run a bigger tire , and have some $ you can change your differential gears in the rear end (front end to if 4x4).god luck.

I just went from a 26.5 inch tall tire to a 30 inch tall tire my acceleration suffered greatly but once your rolling its ok plus I believe that the engine is running at a lower RPM to maintain the same speed
