Subject: Engine off-center?
IP: Logged

Message:
I was under my truck today ('95 Dakota 4x4), trying to see how much trouble it will be to replace the 5.2 with the 5.9 I bought out of a wrecked Ram. I didn't know that the engine is mounted off-center. Anybody know why, and will I get myself in trouble if I change it?
I'm asking because it looks like I'll have to make new mounts when I take off the front suspension to put on a real front axle.

Many vehicles' engines are offset one way or another. This is done because of clearance issues in the relatively tight confines of the engine compartment. Some things to take into consideration are the steering shaft in relation to the exhaust header & the front driveline in relation to the lower block & oil pan.

Hope that helps...good luck with the conversion!!

I also heard it was to compensate for the daks large single sided fuel tank.
