Has anyone else had to replace their upper ball joints near 40000 miles? I have a 2000 QC 4X4 and the ball joints are shot. This will also be the second alignment that I have had done.

I had to do that on my 1999... The more I hear about dakotas, the more convinced I am that they are shiitboxes

I got Moog balljoints from www.rockauto.com. I don't know if they have anything for the 2001 yet though Knobby.

They don't.. I've checked w/ everyone.. and I saw your post on the Recalls post I checked out rockauto they gave me a generic reply saying they don't stock them. Which doesn't tell me if Moog makes them or not. :-\

I did mine this past March...and they are doing great. I use have to get an alignment every 3-4 months and since I put the "moogs" on I haven't had to do an alignment since plus no more popping noise. Here's some pictures of the install.

hi everyone
just to pass on info i have found out.
moog has not released / updated their catalogs yet. i talked to a moog tech rep. he told me the front office folks were aware of the problem. he could not tell me if the 1999 moog part #'s would fit or not. i have a 2000 qc 4x2 with 45,000 miles. so i took matters into my own hands.
i went ahead and installed the upper
and lower ball joints, replaced the outer tie rod ends. also replaced the front stablizer bar rod ends. ( these are not greaseable )
these were part's for a 1999 dakota 4x2. i'am happy to say everything fits and is working fine.i installed all this about 3,000 miles ago. i do recomned having the front end checked after replacing all these parts.
sorry for the long post, hope this helps everyone. gunboat

forgot to say but you 4x4 guys have a pressed
in lower ball joint. the hardest part of replacing
the ball joints was grinding thru the factory metal rivets that hold the (4x2's) ball joints on the upper and lower control arms.i also installed
bigger nuts and bolts on the upper ball joints than what came with the moogs. the lower nuts and bolts are fine for the lower 4x2 ball joints.

I think they sent me the wrong lower ball joints. The one's I got have rivets but I don't see any rivets on the lower ball joints on my truck. I was told also that they would have to be pressed in as well. I did the uppers last night and those rivets are a bear. I had to grind the rivets down and then drill them out. Had me worried for a minute when the rivits didn't just pop out after grinding them down.

does anyone know if the lower ball joints from Moog can be pressed in even though they have the 4 bolt holes? At first it looked like they were the wrong part # because I didn't see any rivets in the stock one's currently on my dak from the factory.

EBOLAVIRS - This weekend I have to drive down to Texas A&M for a football game but when I get back on monday I'm going to be taking my whole front end apart again to replace the ball joints. I'm going to take the joints to NAPA and see if they can come up w/ a replacement if not I'm going to have to go OEM. My truck has started to make a odd popping noise and I need to find out if it's the front axle or if it's the ball joints. (cross your fingers for the ball joints because those have to be replaced anyway).
