I am new to this board but was hoping someone could help me. I want to do a prerunner Dakota. I am just asking around first. In terms of suspension for 2wd Daks, I haven’t seen much of anything that interests me. I was thinking I would have to go custom, which is expensive. I wanted to know if anyone has built a prerunner Dakota custom or not. I just wanted to get some insight from them on what they have done. If you have done a prerunner Dak, tell me all about it. I need to know everything, what you got, troubles or problems, everything you want to tell. Also, I heard a placed called BK Fabworks in Oceanside, CA has done a lot of work on Dakotas, anybody know anything about them?
-Thanks-

If you don't already have a dak then don't buy one. I have a pre runner dak but it was hard to get much out of it. I work at a custom shop and we do mostly toyotas and fords. I bought a dak and built a kit for it. Now it looked sic but not the most travel I have seen. Some shops will charge you more for it then other trucks because then problably haven't done any because there is no market for it. The only ones I have seen have been by people who work at shops. I built new arms for mine which should give them 17" of travel

Do you guys know of anywhere or any custom fab company that could custom make a set of lift spindles for my 1990 2wd? Money is not a huge issue but Id like to keep it under about $1,000. But I am willing to go more if needed. I just really want to have a set made.
Thanks.

I'm new to the whole Dakota thing but have found out a lot of cool info by checking search engines like google. I stumbled across a site that had a lot of info about two wheel drive dakotas. Check it out www.geocites.com/quad2nv

B.K. Fabworks is not in Oceanside,,Correct address is 7150 Mesa Linda st, Oak Hills Ca. Phone: 760-956-2882. As for the Dakotas, Yes, Barry has done a couple. He gets serious travel out of the 4wd model, and has all the geometry worked out. If you have ever seen a black dakota out at glamis getting sick air and generally mashing throttle, that's one of the rigs Barry did. I believe he did upper and lower arms out of 4130 chromoly and had to make new mounts/pivot points. He used 2.5 inch coilovers in front w/custom leaves in rear, and 2.5 inch shocks in the rear. Any more specific and you will have to talk to him. I don't frequent this site much so I may not get back to you right away if you post.

Ya I could have gotten it to work but it would have taken many more hours of shaving and cutting and fitting and stuff of that sort so after 4 1/2 solid days of working on front and rear glass I just decided to drop it and get a bednet and some fab up some 45 degree braces in the rear of the bed where the tailgate used to be.

Also, lilblackdak, you will have to find a way to seal some parts of the engine bay if you do front fenders.
