Believe or not the Coil Over Suspension cost me $3500 I had the tires and rims
The front locker cost me $380
the supension work was done and designed by Maxtire

I put other goodies in it too so all I spent about $7500 including the engine
It has a 721 transfer case from a 1999 V10 Ram that we found totaled in a junk yard

it sounds expensive but for the amount of work it really wasnt
but I did most of the work

Dave

That looks great! My girl finally has given me the ok on converting my 93 2wd to a straight axle 4x4. So far my plan has been to find a late 70's F-series or Bronco and swap the front end and rear to my Dak. Hopefully I will only have to take it to a shop to do the welding and fab up some of the steering components.

What did you get your axles off of? Why did you decide on a coil over set up? How does it ride in normal day-o-day situations? And did you attemt to keep the rear ABS or not
?

Mike the axle came from a 1982 jeep wagoneer.. it fit under the truck perfect plus it was a Dana 44 ... we guted the gears and put on 456 to match the gears I had put on earlier on my rear... we did not change the rear axle therefore my rear ABS still work. the front are disk brakes...
the reason we went with coil over is because it is completely adjustable suspension... if I want to lift my truck again all I have to do is grab a spanner wrench and turn the shock so that is higher... I can lift another 5 inches without spending a dime up front.. the rear is blocks so just need new blocks to lift the rear... the rear axle is stock .. with the exeption that we machined the axle shafts to accept a chevy bolt patern to match the front axle...

the suspension is awsome .. the truck rides like a cadillac .. on and off road...because of the dual stage springs in the shock... soft ride on and off road very little bounce...

Sounds like you've got a great ride then. It's the first I've heard of anyone using the Wagoneer axles. I take it your wheel base isn't any wider than stock then?

So far I am planning on a leaf spring suspension, mainly for simplicity and cost. My east coast wheeling probably won't be any more than mud, snow, and some trails, but knowing how I am even with 2wd, I'll find something else to play in :)

Thanks for the info

Update...
You guys are wondering how the truck is doing... we had a little competition among the local guys here... Im please to let you guys know that the Dakota is King of the Hill... so far she has pulled ahead of everyone inlcuding a V10...
However they tell me to enjoy my victory until the next project truck comes out.. it has a chevy 454 engine ...

We shal see.. Ill keep you all posted ... Im also comtemplating changing the suspension in the rear to a four link suspension and just use King coil over shocks all the way around...

Dave

Hey Dave. I was going to do pretty much the same conversion as you. All but the engine swap. Can you send me pics of the front suspension? I really would like to see the fabrication for the steering box and the coilover brackets. Thanks. I'd also like to know how it rides and if your planning on converting the rear to coils anytime soon. Thanks.
