Message:
I'm giving up on trying to go off roading with my 2k truck. IFS sucks off road. As Knobbyman said even with a suspension lift you ain't gonna get hardly any extra clearance. AND you can forget about articulation you ain't gonna get any flex out of IFS. Soooo.....I'm buying a Jeep. I'm keeping my truck it's still a great truck. Just can't climb big rocks with it.

What do you guys think of this....

1981 Jeep Scrambler w/
1984 360 V8 balanced and blueprinted,I have the paperwork
ARB lockers front and rear
4 wheel disc brakes
Jacobs Super Coil
Dual oil filters
Full roll cage
4" susp lift
JVC stereo cassette
Cobra CB Radio
33x12.50 BFG MT 50% or so tread
Extra air compressor in bed for tires and such this is in addition to ARB compressor
All original gauges and switches work
Extra gauges:
Brake pressure
Oil temp
Oil pressure
Vacuum
Transmisson temp
Water temp
Fuel pressure
Also has fuel cell mounted in bed
Battery also mounted in bed
Also has 5 point racing seat belts
8000 lb Ramsey winch and custom bumper
Body is in Fair condition some rust and scratches

Do you guys think $4500 is too much??!!

I guess it just depends on what you enjoy doing. The Dakota never claimed to crawl over rocks! It has other talents.

That price sounds like a steal. I say go for it.

Holy crap.. $4,500 for a cj-8 ..

BUY THAT NOW!!

I almost bought a '84 Scrambler for $5,000 bairly running.

If your going to crawl rocks I'd go under and stiffen up the frame because the Scrambler has quite abit of frame flex to it.

Also what axles are in it?

Ya know what.. nevermind don't buy that.. instead give me the guys phone number and I'll see what I can do for ....... um.. you.. yea I'll be thinking about you when I'm driving my new Jeep. :-p

Seriously though that's a awesome deal.

Keep this URL handy. Anything you need to get for Scramblers can be found by these guys. http://www.collinsbrosjeep.com/

Hey guys don't get me wrong I love my truck especially since Fastman Tb install. It's ok for moderate to slightly difficult trails but you can forget the really rough stuff. My frame has really taken a beating. That's another reason for getting something older and used.

Thanks for the link Knobby I might be doing some things to the jeep myself although there ain't much left to do.

I forgot to mention it has this neat gauge mounted on the dash. It has two dials on it with icon of jeep. One gives left to right degree of angle the other gives front to back degree of angle for those off camber moments. I think I really lucked into something neat here. I pick it up tomorrow (Wed).

Sounds like a great deal Dodster, I got an '84 CJ7, full cage, 4.11's, 8000 lb. Warn, etc.

You're gonna love the Jeep, mine will go just about anywhere I want to go, took it on vacation cross country once.

Yeah I think they call that gauge a tilt-o-meter or something like that, pretty neat.

Good luck with it!

I used to own a 83 CJ7 back in 80s and I loved it. But wrecked it and insurance went sky high. I had to sell it.

Knobby, I don't remember what axles are in it (so much stuff to remember!!!)but I will look at info sheet it's on there. It has a Dana 300 transfer case and it has a 3:54 gear. I'm not that familiar with that gear ratio. The guy could've meant 3:55. But as much effort as this guy put into it he probably knows what he's talking about. The 3:54 could be for some old AMC axles. But then again a lot of different auto makers made parts for AMC.

Great.. You realize I hate you now .... You've gotten me back into the "I could afford it if I don't eat lunch 7 days a week" mind set.

Hehe.. Have fun with that thing.

Sounds like a good deal, buy it! I own an 82' CJ8 and it is the balls.
Check for bad rust in the back of the bed between the gas tank from underneath.

Question on the CJ8 - It says ARB's front and rear...what extactly is the front and rear? Stock Dana 30 and stock AMC 20? Also, what is the gears? 2.73s? Have they been upgraded? What is the tranny? Transfer case? Noticed it says discs all around, have the axles been upgraded?
...you can little r me on this....I tend to get carried away when it comes to CJ8s.... ;)>

Nitraking .. what the heck is your problem?

If you did know anything about off-roading you'd know that Jeeps are what almost everyone that doesn't have the money to custom build a rig for them selves.

For show only? I don't think so. I've put more hours into research and building my truck then you have even thinking about yours.

Your obviously old and bitter. Mud & Sand is all there is in this part of Texas. I'd love to see you try and drive on sand. Mud tires & sand does require skill.

And who the heck are you? Popping up in the middle of a thread bashing people? You must be that same little punk thats trying to piss everyone off.

Great deal. Pick it up. Scramblers are pretty cool. The rear end sounds a bit small and you'll probably want to swap it out along with some new gears but it sounds pretty nice. If you're up in WA you'll have to come wheelin' with us. ; ) My 91's all set after I spent all of last weekend replacing the rear main seal and oil pan seal (kinda banged it up-started leakin'), valve cover, coolant system flush, rear diff re-seal and service, tranny service and reseal.

I have everything I need here how cool is that. OH!! and I mooch off parrents for everything hehe wouldn't that be nice if I didn't have to work. But if I didn't have to work I wouldn't be able to post on these boards.. so then I wouldn't have any of this cool stuff.

Anyway I never said I was the king of off-road or that you were a moron and didn't know anything. People kind of figured that last part out for themselves.

BTW what do you mean when you say.. "dont tell me about sand and mudholes is all we have in texas dude get out! where i live that is pussy crap" I never claimed it was rock crawling.. I also haven't seen any pictures of you and your truck tearing anything up.

Quit your complaining if you don't like what I or this forum have to say... LEAVE!!

I'm not responding from here out.. and if you send me any more e-mails...... :-) I'm going to get to have fun at work instead of listening to lame people like you complaining.

Dodster .. what are we going to do w/ people like this? ;-)
