I am intersted in this too.

I have steel plates for the front end - oilbox - transfer case, but not the gas tank.

I have seen posts that say the dealer can get a steel plat for the gas tank, but my dealer says no. Is there a trick to ordering the plates?

See my posts under Hey Arthur.

The plates are good.
The Dodge plastic plates are not.

Also, you can find many older posts about this if you search Dodge Dakotas.com for "skid plates"

If you e-mail me I will send PDF files for plans, (you have to have them fabicated), but I won't send it until next week.

I have seen a post before that had a link to the Mopar site that showed the plates. There is a steel one for '00's from Mopar. I have one but I think you have to have the 22 gallon tank. My buddies Quad cab came with the composite type to cover the tank. It is much larger than the one I have. I think he has a bigger tank though.

The problem with the composite plates, beside the weakness, is that they collect lots of mud and it is impossible to get out with out taking off the plates. That is allot of weight!

I did not make a fuel cell plate since mine was already metal. Never thought they would change those.

Forexfour,

I saw an old post about you drawing up plans for skid plates and making them. Do you still have plans and/or make them? You said you have one. For sale or on your truck?

I can't get enough of ridin' the trails and my frame is taking a beating!! Just a matter of time before something vital takes a hit. If you have the time and don't mind please email me at dodster@attbi.com with any info. I am interested in making a move asap. Thanks for any help!!

BTW, I am interested in all skid plates, xfer case, oil pan and especially fuel tank. Fuel tank is 25 gal.

Here is what I have found.

I called my Parts guys at the dealer. He gave me this part number 82223839. This seems to be the 22 gallon tank plate. He said that covers all the tanks. I told him that it does not. So he can't help out anymore. I found this picture at Mopar.

http://www.mopar.com/m_acc_cat_part.jsp

Someone has got to have the number for the 25 gallon plate. It is composite but it should work ok.

I tried. I will see if I can find anything else.

I got a design for the skid plates from Fourxfore. Had a local steel fabricator make them.

I can e-mail you the pdf file, I need to know your e-mail, mine is ccandjb@aol.com

I had to make some minor adjustments to the design to fit my frame - but in the end it worked out great.

Hi Dodster and Others,

I made a post on this topic for the Quad Cab fuel tank skid plate back in July. In review, my local dealer was more than helpful in finding out what to do to get a factory skid plate for my truck's fuel tank, but the cost was nearly ridiculous.

I have enclosed part of my original July 19 post below for you, ...

----------

"Good News :) , ... There IS a fuel tank skid plate available for the Quad Cab, ... It is part number 52102426AB.

Bad News :( , ... Unlike the $68 accessory offering in the books for the other models, it's almost $300 for the thing as it's sold as a part and NOT an accessory."

----------

In review above of my past July 19 posting and in reference to those whose dealers say that one isn't available, the QC fuel tank skid plate IS available, but as a part only and not listed as in the accessory book in any form.

My dealer was very helpful and without hesitation, offered to go that extra mile to do the search for me. You may want to push your dealer or go to another one if they seem non-responsive to your wants and needs. Per my dealer, but not in exact quotes, ... You are their customer and they should service you in any way reasonably possible if they expect to keep you as one.
