Just my 2 cents on the frame showing, but if you think its that bad, and this is just a suggestion, clean the underneath real good. I am gonna start of with a jet wash, probably from the car wash. Then let it dry, and make sure its clean enough. Then spray some flat black rustoleum under there. Of course making sure all your trim and all is covered. Another thing you might try, is some of that roll on bed liner stuff. Just an idear!

I like Jeff's frame idea. I am looking at the conveniently small pic of the "gap guard" on the perf acc. web site and it looks flimsier than lawn edging and I bet if you go to where they make it. They have 1000s of yds of lawn edging material and some people with patterns to cut. Bottom line you can say "I got the good stuff, cost me extra but I got it" but it doesn't change the fact that you paid $55 for $10 worth of stuff. Can't change that. No way no how. Just my $.02, you can have it for a dime but it's still just my $.02

The next person in line at the car wash probably hates me, but what I do is use the bubble brush and scrub the underneth of my truck down nearly every time I wash it. The frame and wheel wells are nearly as black as they were the day I bought it. For those that haven't tried it, it really makes your truck look new again.

Of course, before I use the brush, I rinse it out with the pressure washer and run my hand through the bristles just to make sure no one has left any large rocks wedged in it. Wouldn't want a rock scratching up my pretty frame that's about to show after this weekend!

Although I think it is pointless and one should get what you want, I have seen the lift lips in hand, and they are way different than the edging. Either will work, but they are by no means the same. I like cheap and easy. But in this case I give the nod to the lift lips. Especially on the front fender wells. Material is much more pliable and will stand up to things like sticks, limbs, etc. hitting it off road. It will flex and return to shape without tearing loose the fastening points. The edging being stiffer will put more pressure on whatever you attach it with, thus increasing the chance of it comeing loose. Again, either is ok. Get what you want. IF someone else doesnt like it, whichever you choose, then tell them you'd be happy to change if they provide the cash.

I have to agree with Hawkeye , it`s your truck...you can do what you like to it. Yes , there are times when I may cut corners to save a buck , but this isn`t one of them. I have had the lift lips on my last 2 trucks and was very happy with them. They were very easy to install , looked good , and were never mistaken for lawn edging. Like I said before , you have to take into consideration what your time is worth to you.If you spend 10 dollars (or whatever the going rate is for edging is I don`t know) for material and half a day trying to make it look right , what have you really saved?
Everyone has they`re opinion , and this is mine.I`m done with the pissing match , if someone wants to use edging , innertubes , or plastis bags for gap guards feel free, its your truck.

Anybody with a body lift and a 5spd? How does throwing in those extra 3" effect your shifter? I've got a 2001 QC 5spd with a Hurst short throw. Just wondering how my shifting habits will change before I buy the lift. Thanks for any input, guys.

IMAN23,

Good question, I've been asking around and it seems TallQuad is the only one that's put a body lift on a newer 5spd Dak. I'm installing mine tomorrow, so I'll see what happens. I don't want to make the throw any longer than it already is, but I also don't want to mess with heating up the gearshift and bending it.

I'll let you know what i find out. (instructions that I got say nothing about having a 5spd.)

Torque, the thing that I am worried about is the fact that the short-throw I put in has a different angle than that of stock. I have had to fabricate custom parts (tower spacer, new consol plate and boot) to fit a Hurst short-throw on the nv3500 on my 2001. I don't want to have to refab any parts, but with a 3" difference, I just might. I yours a 2001+? If you want to ever throw in a Hurst, I'll share the knowledge regarding the mods. That stock throw was way too much for me.

I have 01 QC 4x4 4.7 5spd, and I can tell you that the lift was not made for the 5speed. So if you really want it, you have two options. You can bend the shifter up and to the right, I can't tell you exactly how much, because I didn't try it(I was too scared to f%$k it up), or you can reposition the center console. I chose move the console 3 inches back and 1 inch to the left. There was some cutting involved. I think that it came out pretty good, if you take your time and do it right, no one will even notice, unless they know what to look for. If you decide to take on this project and do what I did, or if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm sorry, but I don't have any pictures. If you live in SoCal, you can always stop by.

With the short throw Hurst I put in, I think all I would need to do is fab a 3" bar extender. I am looking into it. 4x4, if you want to put in a short throw, I can let you in on what I did. No consol cutting/modifying.
