Installed SS Borla cat-back exhaust today with minimal bloodshed. Did it in 2.5 hrs. with no lift but had air tools. Biggest prob was crimp line on cat pipe from factory U-bolt. Took an angle grinder to it and used air chisel to curl up corners of overlapping pipe that was removed. Jacked up pass side of truck with floor jack and removed the old cat back system as a unit. New system went on in 30 minutes, piece of cake. It has the same hanger style as stock utilizing the rubber grommets & everything lined up perfectly, excellent craftsmanship on this system. Fired her up and was impressed with the deep throaty rumble and immediately cracked open a cold one to celebrate, LOL.

I know what you mean on that friggin overtightened clamp at the converter that DC makes what should be a 1 hour job become over 2 hours of wrestling, hammering and cutting in the end. Since I had installed a catback system on my 99 Dak, I already knew what I had to do to get the stock system off so it took me less than hour on this truck using air tools and lift at my Uncles auto shop:)

I have wanted to hear the Borla on a 4.7, have you heard what the Flowmaster catback kit sounds like? Just wondering on the comparison of exhaust note. Also, is yours stainless and how much $$ did it set you back if you don't mind me asking. Thanks and congratulations on joining the "I can't stop from mashing the throttle and passing a gas station" Club!

If you have access to a torch it is a 25min job.;) I replace cats and stuff all the time. IF you have access to a torch all you do is heat the connection and wiggle. Makes it so easy but few people have a torch.

Got it from Summit, pt# BOR-14900F, cost $380. You can see Borla's price at their site, Summit's price was the cheapest I could find. I just shortened stainless steel with the SS, LOL. The whole setup comes as a kit from Borla from the cat-back including the muffler all T-304 stainless. Sounds sweet as hell, looks excellent on the truck, nice looking intercooler tip seamlessly welded onto the system.

Thanks, Lesley, it does feel better when you 'do it yourself', scraping knuckles excluded, LOL!

2THEXTRM, I should have just sawzalled the pipe directly past the junction and grinded the line splitting the collar, would have taken all of 15 minutes, LOL. Sounds excellent but I haven't heard your setup so I can't compare. I just got a new MP3 player/recorder so when I figure that out-Duh, maybe I can take a recording, LOL. I also have a Tpad notebook so I probably can use it by itself to record, dunno, not too 'puter literate, just learn as I go along, LOL. Yeah, I know what you mean, you can't help but get on it with it sounding so good, hehehe!

CW, yeah I used to be a welder, LOL! I have the conversion kit for my bernz-o-matic hidden somewhere in the garage. Sometimes I just have to torture myself by doing things the hard way, builds character, LOL!

My bro got the Borla/Mopar Performance dual setup for his Liberty and when I saw the quality, sound, and ease of installation I knew that it was the setup for me.

Hey I am a new member here, and I am trying to read most of the posts to prevent repeat ?'s, but is the Borla system loud? Looking to replace stock muffler, maybe not the whole cat back deal. Trying to mod a truck, and starting to build house in Oct. so $ will be a little on the tight side. Thinking Borla or Flowmaster, keeping it single, to prevent backpressure issues, want the performance with out dramatically raising the cab noise. Thanks for any input.

pbxr, my Borla system has a deep tone to it as described above. Unobtrusive in the cab to me while driving but when you get on it you can throw 'Unobtrusive' out the window, LOL!

Steve, sounds like you had a great time down the shore. Did you have any luck fishin' the surf at IBSP? Sounds like you looked into getting a 'beach buggy permit' so you can 'wheel' right up to your fishing area. Been there, done that, cool ;-)

Not a whole heck of alot going on down here, work's kinda slow because it's too darn hot to do anything.

Do you like the gains, if any from the addition?
Besides the noise that is?
Thanks

YW, I haven't dynoed it butt it feels quicker to me when I get on it, but once again maybe it's the noise. All in all I'm pretty satisfied with it- easy install utilizing stock exhaust hanger locations, stainless steel, million mile warranty and deep tone of exhaust.

I wanted to do my exhaust once and not have to worry about it again, but even if the cat goes bad Borla provided flat clamps so the exhaust is not crimped and should be easy to separate if needed.

Good luck with it. Well for a temporary solution you guys with your nice trucks and mod posts have talked me into swapping my exhaust. So I am going the cheap route, for now, and ordered the dynomax muffler. Would love the Borla, but that would be a little tougher sell to the boss(wife)hehe. Beggars can't be choosers i guess. I will try to post with updates, and maybe if I am not so lazy throw a few pics on line. Hopefully by the end of next week i will have it in. Always been of fan of working on my own vehicles, besides in my book, if you haven't bled on your vehicle you haven't loved your vehicle.
