My wife and I just refinanced the house, and we are going to fix up the old place. I wanted a garage, but when you need a new kitchen and bath, new furnace and new electrical service, the garage has to wait.

Well, I kinda said something about the Kenney Bell SC for the truck. She gave me THE LOOK!! Any married man knows and fears THE LOOK. Made me feel selfish. So I told her I had an idea to make the living room look bigger.

Get rid of the big entertainment center!! It took up the one side of the room, plus I damaged it moving it around after we got carpet reacently.

Well, went to Best Buy(insert Homer Simpson drooling sound effect here)Ended up getting a 34" Toshiba Widescreen HDTV , 600watt pioneer Home Theater system , and a Toshiba progressive scan DVD player!!!!

A DVD movie in a progressive scan player , and an HD tv, looks like your right there!!!!
INCREDIBLE clarity!!!! And she was all for it because the hole thing takes up up less than 1/2 the space of the old system!! And that was a 27" tv. All this and I don't feel guilty or selfish!!!

I half-way expected to read about an HDTV in your truck!!

Nice compromise however. Gotta say that was an excellent idea to make the living room bigger(he,he,he). I have to ask, did she send you to Best Buy alone?

Thanks guys!! And yes I went there the first time alone, than came up with a reason to get all the good stuff. You know, like in the year 2005 ALL stations will be brodcasting in High Def,and if your stuck with a t.v that is not HDTV ready, you will have to spend $250-$500 just to watch ANYTHING. And even then it wont be High Def!! True? I don't know, but thats what I have been reading, and if I'm gonna fall for it,she may as well come along for the ride, don't ya think?hahha!

BlueTwister , Can you imagine that? All that great music in Dolby Digital!! Plus being able to stop the picture and have it clear as a bell. OHHH!!Slow Motion, aahhh , just think about it! Oh well,I can only watch about 10 min befor I very suddenly lose intrest in it. Never could figure that out!!HEHE!!

No , but for the price of all the goodies, I coulda had one. I redid everything and started from scratch. Monster cable ,the whole thing.
This is just me , but I found out that projection screens require alot of maintenance. I was told that every 10 to 12 months you should have the guns in the back reaimed,at a cost of anywere from $90 to $110!!So I stayed with a direct view. You may want to consider that. I think Sony just came out whith a direct view widescreen in their Wega screen. VERY COOL!!! Lots of cash though.

I have Monster Cable connecting everything and a Monster Cable Power Conditioner, all worth it but lotsa $$. The way I look at it invest extra now and not have to buy again since speaker cable technology changes very slowly. I think the biggest widescreen direct view you can buy right now is 45" and there is an inherent reliability problem with large direct-view tv's 35" and bigger. The larger tubes can burn themselves out prematurely which is not repairable. JVC ranks highest for reliability and they make direct-views up to 36" only, no projection tv's unfortunately. I have a 35" non-flat JVC that I have had now for almost 7 years and a 27" JVC that is over 12 years old, both have never been to a repair shop and both are used daily(one in each room of house:). The larger the tube, the larger the power supply needed, which like a projection tv's very large power supply takes a beating and will eventually fail if tv is used reguarly for extended periods. You will normally find projection tv's require an adjustment to the color lenses with cleaning and power supply check-up annually to retain optimum picture quality and dependability. On this type of equipment I will always buy the extended warranty for at least 5 years which should include annual check-ups/cleanings and replacement of failed parts, another wise investment. I actually have held off on buying a projection because of their known reliability problems, but a "big screen" is needed to complete my home theatre since I have almost $2K into Denon Receiver, Sony DVD, High-end Cerwin Vegas all the way around and Monster Cable connects/line conditioner. Lets not forget over 100 DVD's that are begging for big screen viewing:) Once you get the home theatre bug you can't stop! My system has evolved over the past 10 years from laserdisc with stereo sound and two speakers to dvd with 5.1/DTS and 6 speakers, it's alotta fun but very expensive. The most important thing is, you enjoy it regardless of what you have or how much $$ you spent, some people are content watching a 27" using speakers built in to tv!

There were two instances when I wish I had bought the service plan,my first D.V.D player and my Wingman joystick. Both broke after the 90 warranty. I will NOT let that happen again. All my new gear is covered , and so is the new joystick.

Go on,break....I dare you haha!!!

Ken, I did the 46" Mits HDTV, Outlaw 1050 receiver/750 amp, SVS sub, DD-6000 Mits Progressive scan DVD and a complete M&K speaker system a little over a year ago. Wallet still hasn't recovered from it. You could buy a pan to TB _BLOWN_ 408 stroker for that change, but a tricked home theater is pretty awesome. Buy a good, properly amped sub at some point. It'll blow your mind what some of the available DVDs can do. Will definitely wake the neighbors late at night.

Enjoy!

For the size of our house, the 600 watt Pioneer is plenty. The pizza guy had to knock 3 times before we heard him. The front door is only 8 ft from where we are sitting!! hehehe!
