I have seen and heard of installing a 91 Grant steering wheel install kit on later years. I have a 93 with cruise. I know I have to relocate the cruise control switches. Are any other mods required to either the collom or adapter hub from Grant.

Hi, davsblknwht!

Just finished a Grant wheel install on my '99 (I know, way newer, but may still help)! I won't flame you if you ditched your airbag wheel, because not only did I do it too, sometimes you gotta have style first! It's your truck, answer to yourself only!

Anyhoo; if you DID have an airbag, the horn function will take some head scratching and extra fab, as the horn switch and contacts may be built into the airbag clockspring (which naturally goes bye-bye with the new wheel). That's how it is on my '99-- there is no horn contact base in the column-- maybe your '93 is the same?

Also, on my truck, the turn signal cancelling function is also either on the hub of the OE wheel or the back of the clockspring (can't remember which).

If you were to install a horn button on the dash or somewhere (like on a race car) you could work around this problem. Also, I have heard of putting roll pins in the Grant hub (have to drill holes) to get the auto-cancelling turn signals.

One other thing: to clear the OE plastic column cover, the Grant column cover (the black "flying saucer" thing that goes behind the wheel) in these kits usually has to be ground down (bench grinder or Dremel).

For now, I have no horn function and am cancelling the turn signals manually until I get a solution worked out... whoever said this hobby would be easy?!

Hope this helps some!

Back at ya,

Thanks for the reply. My 93 has nor air back although it was avalable. I dod not know yet if the coloms are the smae but probable.

I instructions from Grant do mention a rollpin solution to the turn signals. I will probable have to intall them to can-x the signal, However how hard is it to tap the lever once ya get used to doing so.

The horn , who cares, I never use it anyway, I have a big mouth.

Again, thx 4 the help

Purple 1,

Hay the intall went GREAT once I fingered out the stupid black wireing control thing amaging had to come out. Like you said no horn but I can live with it not to have to look at the ugly old warn out stock wheel. The intall kit came with two colom covers. I used the large thin cover and the clearance was perfect.

Now I have to hase down the crouse control wires and relocate the stock switchs from the old wheel to their new home under the wheel on the dash some where.

Again thxs for the help. I love this site.
