Subject: Tuckin' R/T 20's?

Message:
Will the backspacing/offset on the R/T 20's allow them to tuck on a bagged dakota?

No, the reason R/T's have fender flares is because the wheels sit outside the fender a little. So the 20's are the same way, they hang out past the edge of the fender a little.

I was thinking the same thing when I was considering bags. I figured if you cut down the rear end a few inches it might work, and the tires up front would camber in when laid out, so you might not have to worry about that.

The 20s are the same backspacing/offset as the stock 17s? If that's so, I have talked to a company that says with lower profile tires on the 17s, they will tuck (I have the pictures showing this). He assures me they did nothing special to get them to do this, but if so, do the 20s have any room to grind them down to sit a little inside the fender? Or is this going to weaken them too much?

The profile only has to do with the height of the actual tire. You're going to be worried about the width. On 17's I can see going with a narrower tire, but you're talking about 20's. If you're doing bags, you are definately (hopefully) going to be tucking some of the rim. Which goes back to the fact that the wheels--not just the tires--stick outside the fenders a little. Really, the only way to get those particular wheels to tuck is to shorten the rear end.

Also, don't even think about grinding on the wheel. You will most definately screw up a really cool set of rims. Also, with the offset of these wheels, you would be grinding off a good 1" to 2".

If you don't want to fork out the cash to do what needs to be done, you will have to settle for some different dubs with the right specs to tuck.

you can shorten the rear end about 4" and this should give you the clearance you need. or like carolinakota said, try a different set of dubs. ever heard of Boze alloys?? they make rims that will tuck on a kota. kind of high priced though. check em out at www.bozeforged.com

if you shorten the rear end by 4 inches you are going to have to cut the wheel wells out of the bed, the tires almost rub with my 275/50/17's as it is.
