Subject: Where to buy dragging blocks?
IP: Logged

Message:
I've seen a bunch of people in town with them and I think they are a real frame saver. I would rather drag them then my frame. I can't seem to find them even though everybody talks about them. Anybody know a good website? Thanks

Yes,the brackets are attached to them. All you have to do is find a spot to drill the two holes, and mount them with the hardware.

Minitruckin' did an install and test on the drag blocks (Jan. 02 issue). They said that the blocks lasted about 10 passes before they were wore down to the mounts. They didn't say how long each pass was. Seems kinda expensive for such a short thrill.

Actully.. drag blocks last longer then 10 drags.. when titanium heats itself up ( by dragging ).. then cools back down, it becomes harder. Blocks tend to last awhile.. also.. try dragging thru water with em..

ive been hearing alot about these, I know titanium is the hardest metel in the world so i would think they would last a while. The biggest concern I had was sparks, call me crazy but i love to see some sparks. I lay complete frame and still cannot produce a good spark show. Will these thing help my sparking fetish? Or will they just make alittle noise? Jason

Ps: I dont have dakota either but when we drag we all drag together no matter the vehicle!!!

I sell titanium drag blocks on eBay. Just do a search for "drag blocks," or check out my auctions as "the*real*deal!" I'm currently designing the Mother of all Drag Blocks... a 16 pound 8" diameter, 2" thick solid titanium disk that will slide into a class 3 hitch receiver. The disk will be capable of rotating and locking into different positions so that it can wear uniformly all the way around. It won't be cheap, but it'll be a real show-stopper.

I just put mine on, can we say spark show?.....hahaha.....I love the look on all the people faces at the mall when I mate to the pavement....everybody and their mom turns around....its so damn funny....and what was even funnier was a body-laying s-10 came cruising upside me hitting the switches and I layed down and shot sparks and he wouldn't even drop it all the way......maybe scared he'll chip the paint? He was laying body on the ground when I saw him parked.

Just make a set man, I found a guy on ebay that sells titanium cheap. Also it would make alot of sense to learn how to fabricate your own, because I know by experence that you go through them fairly quick.

Xplikt's right. Titanium is a real bitch to work with. I sell the complete blocks on eBay under the name the*real*deal! and I couldn't tell you how many drill bits I've fried drilling this stuff... not to mention the chop saw I burned up. I finally went to a $70 solid carbide bit which worked great for about two weeks, then it snapped in half. I've got a pretty decent work shop... Clausing drill press, Bridgeport mill, etc. and it takes me every bit of two hours to make one pair of drag blocks. If you don't have a heavy duty drill press, don't even think about attempting it. I used to sell just the titanium blocks on eBay for people who wanted to make their own, but most of them ended up having problems drilling it, so I quit selling the blocks separately. I make about $30 on a pair, and when you consider the time it takes to make them, and the broken drills and taps, you're probably better off just to buy them already made. If you wanna see some sparks, check out my current eBay auction for some nice pics:

Titanium is not necessarily hard. It's just tougher. The molecules don't separate as easy as say, tool steel. Thus, it takes more energy to separate the particles and turn them into sparks when you drag. This heats them up to a hotter temp and resulting color, than if you drug tool steel.

Don't have the data in front of me, but I'm sure it's definitely not as hard as A2 tool steel. Might be harder than S7 or D2, though.
