Alright a little help anyone!! I'm new to the whole shackle and hangers thing! I bought the WC 2-4 drop but i only want to lower the back 3 inches. The shackles are 2-3 inch adjustable. Can I use just the shackles or do I have to use the hangers with it. Oh yeah I got a 2001 R/T. Thanks!

You've got rear shakle hangers, not shakles.
The shakle hangers will drop the rear of your
truck about 1.75". I used them along with
some custom steel 1" blocks to drop the back
of my quad just shy of 3" total.

The front spring hangers are adjustable for a
1, 2 or 3" drop (I think).

I'd install the rear shakle hangers and see
what you think. If you wanted to drop more you
could install the front spring hangers or add a
1" block.

Hell, you could install just the front spring
hangers and drop 3" but you'd have a really
bad positive pinion angle (the front of the rear
end would be angled up, which isn't good).

You can correct pinion angle with shims, but I
found out you also have to replace the pin/bolt
that holds the leaf spring pack together as the
stock pin isn't long enough to use with shims.

I'm hot sure, but dropping a full 3" on an RT is
going to be really low. Maybe some RT
owners will chime in, but I think dropping 3 on
an RT might be too low.

Hope this helps,
Lemmers

Actually the rear shackles are adjustable from 2 inches to 3 inches thats why I was askin if I could use just the shackles on the back. I'm also only droppin the front 2 inches using control arms or A arms whatever theyre called. Thanks guys

Not to flame, but I really don't think you have
adjustable SHAKLES.

The shakles on our Dakotas actually mount
upside down compared to most trucks. The
shakle connects to the rear of the leaf springs
and then to the shakle hanger which is
mounted above the back of the leaf spring.

If you mounted the rear of the leaf spring
directly to the factory shakle hanger (not even
using the shakle) it wouldn't drop the rear of
your truck 2" cause the shakles are pretty
short to begin with.

Anyway, if you ordered rear shakle hangers
from Western Chassis they ARE NOT
adjustable. They'll drop the rear of your truck
about 2" by moving the back of the leaf spring
and factory shakle up compared to factory
location.

If you have the front spring hangers they ARE
adjustable and will drop the rear of your truck
2, 2.5 or 3" depending on the mounting holes
you choose.

Again, I'm not trying to flame anyone, I just
hate it when mis-information is spread.

I tried using blocks for a 4" drop, and the rear end bounced nonstop. I finally got 3" drop leaf springs and a 1" block, and the ride is better. The blocks are cheaper, but I honestly think you would be better off putting up the cash for some leaf springs. Godfather Customs (www.godfathercustoms.com)has leaf springs for $69 and up. Hope I helped.

Well, they do make adjustable shackles and hangers for the Ram. I am also new to the whole lowering thing period. Here is the blurb from Western Chassis:

For the rear, Western
uses a set of 1-2" adjustable shackles combined with laser-
cut 1/4" steel hangers that are adjustable to 2" or 3" for a
combined shackle/hanger drop of3", 4" or 5".

So if the shackles are for the back of the leaf spring and the hangers are for the front, how do they get a total 3-5" drop? Or do they combine the shackle/hanger on the rear of the spring and you have the bad pinion angle thing or what? I am just trying to find a decent 2/4 drop for my SS/T. Thanks.

im looking at lowering the rear because the stock ride in my 01 sport v6 is higher in the back, i dont know how drastic a 4 inch drop hanger and shackle kit would be compared the the stock front and im also curoius about the ride quality , here is a link to the product, any suggestions would be really helpful http://truckperformance.com/products/?searchtype=56d&sortorder=DAAAA&productcategory=Shackles&category=Suspension+%26+Chassis&sf1=DODGE&sf2=2001&sf3=Dakota&sf4=Extended+Cab
