Subject: Something wrong with my truck?

I've got a 95 Sport and when I first got it in October I immediately lowered it slightly. I heated the coils up front (about 2 inches) and put 3" blocks in the back. I know that's definately not the best way to do it, but I wanted it done quick.

Now I want to go lower and at this point droppin' 2-3 thousand for bags is not an option.

Here's my problem. I was at sporttruckdirect and was readin' about their Western Chassis kits. They say that a c-notch is not necessary with a 5 inch rear drop. But with 3" blocks in the back my truck is a little over an inch from the bumpstop. I do not see how I could drop the back even 4", let alone 5".

Are my rear leaf springs possibly sagging? Visualy they look fine.

You can see my truck at http://www.geocities.com/diligent_dave2001 in the "Southern Ridas" section.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!

If someone with a stock height GenII 4X2 could measure from the ground to the fender lip of the rear wheels I believe that would help me. Oh yeah, and tell me what size tire you're runnin'.

Thanks...

you can cut your bumpstops down, or get new ones that are shorter

i lowered mine in the rear w/ a 5" shackle
hanger kit from DJM...I havent hit the bump
stops yet. I'm planning to go another inch, so i
bought lower profile bump stops. My friend
has a 98 cc and went 7" in the rear. It rides on
the frame (not good) in a frame vs. rear end
war, the frame usually wins!

Kotaon20s: I know a good deal about lowering and was probably going to put on some smaller bumpstops because that's what I have to do, short of notching the frame. But thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

I was just wondering if my truck is some sort of a freak. I mean, I hit the bumpstops with a 3 inch drop! My truck's on crack. :)

IVE BEEN DROPPING TRUCKS FOR YEARS.ITS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT WHEN YOU START DROPPING YOUR TRUCK,YOU START MILD BUT ALWAYS END UP SLAMMING IT TO THE GROUND @ SOME POINT.MY ADVICE[ GET YOUR FRAME NOTCHED @ REAR,SWITCH OUT COILS FOR DESIRED DROP IN FRONT AND INSTALL REAR KIT W/DESIRED DROP IN RESPECT TO FRONT ie RAKE.
NOTCHING FRAME WILL GIVE YOU MORE OPTIONS LATER,GOOD LUCK......TROY

if you have blocks in the rear i'm pretty sure your axle will be closer to the frame than shackles and hangers.shackles and hangers use the flex in the springs to lower it and block just move the axle up closer to the frame. so you would have more clearance with shackles and hangers.

i could be wrong but thats what i'm going with

if you think about it , raising the axle relative to the frame - whether done with a block or by moving the attchment point of the leaf springs up with shackles is the same thing: you will be bringing the axle closer to the frame and bumpstops

Diligent Dave - your truck is not a freak. my 91 with 3" blocks was exactly the same - barely an inch of clearance between axle & bumps, and that is quickly gone with any weight in the bed. and that is why you must notch the frame! if you go lower.. and obviously you must modify the bumpstops at the same time too :) I also added air shocks for when I wanted to carry any load

ps I was running 235/70-15 rear and 235/60-15 front on 7" rims; I wanted to go 255/70-15 rear which is about as big as you should go on a 7" rim (get some 99+ 5 spokes or the newer durango/sport which are 8" but not as nice looking IMO)

I originally lowered my 93 with the 3/5 western kit from sport truck direct. You don't HAVE to have a notch to get down 5", but your rearend will be sitting on the bump stops. I drove like that for quite a while, not all that bad but pretty rough. I would definatley get a notch if you want a smooth ride.
