I just got a 1999 dakota r/t. I want to make it lay body. It is the stock height right now. I want to bag it and bodydrop it. With 18" wheels does anyone know if I could get by with a 2.5" body drop and a big notch in the back or would I have to get a bigger body drop to lay the body on the ground. Also with the body dropped would the engine clear the hood or what? Let me know. Thanks

Hmmm, I guess money is no object to you...

I think that a 2.5" would work. If not, it's damn close to what would lay rocker. To bag your truck at a good shop will cost about $3000. One of the local shops does body drops for $1500 the first 1" and $1000 each additional 1". That's another $3000.

Who cares if it clears the stock hood. Put a cowl on that thing.

well....first off. i got a body dropped 99 kota so i know what its gonna take. it will need a minimum of a 3.5 inch body drop to lay the pinch welds flat on the ground. if your willing to make a new engine and tranny cross member you can get away with 2.5 inches. however. take a look at your oil pan, wont be any protection for it. i would just go 3.5 inches. and before you put it in a shop that says, yeah we can do it, check them out first. dakota's are one of the hardest trucks on the market to body drop. if not done right.....you never drive it again. i had mine done by jody hall at the drop shop in pikeville kentucky, he did an awsome job and i'll recomend him to anybody. i have over 10,000 miles on my bodydrop without a single problem, drivin everyday, rain, snow, sun, shade, mud, dirt, rocks, you name it.....trucks been threw it. not with the rims though..lol. my body drop cost me $3650 turn key job.....i got pics if you want. bagd99dako@netscape.net hope this helps
