Subject: rolling fenders

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to roll the fender lips up higher so they dont rub and tear the wheels up after a drop. My front end is dropped roughly 3" depending on the settling of the springs and the rear is dropped 4" using hangers. I replaced all 4 bumpstops (front: 1-9/16" Tall. rear: ~11/16" Tall). Now, on various bumps I get extreme rubbing on the front drivers side and minimal rubbing on the front passenger. Its enough to start tearing the tread on my 255/55/17 tires not to mention making me cringe after rolling over a hill or bump. Does anyone know how to bend the lip of the fenders up so this will minimize the rubbing/tearing factor my tires are now seeing? While bending back my fenders after extreme rubs, i've noticed that there is more metal that is in the way in the front (the actual wheel well u can see in the engine compartment?) Does anyone know of a way to solve this problem aside from investing in a newer low profile set of wheels?

Thanks,

---Ed

I have a 91 Dakota that I lowered 2-4. I bought 18's for it last year off the TireRack and they told me I HAD to use my 255/55ZR18 tires that they recommended. So I bought them and it rubbed really bad. Then they told me to roll my fenders and when I asked my local body shop man, he told me it was pretty difficult to do without cracking the paint. So I just bought 225/40ZR18's and now I plan on lowering it another inch or two in the front and back. No rubbing!! No problems.

We have the same problem on our Raised trucks.

Ed Dirks - do any body shops do that or just some?

I'd love to be able to fit some wider tires :-) and that's exactally what I need to do it.

Ya know it's funny. As much as our trucks are differen't we do basically the same things to either raise or lower just in reverse order. ;-)

hrmmm... guess it's more of a head ache to roll the fronts up. Well, I initially lowered it to rid the wheel gap. If I go with a 40 series on my 17's the wheel gap will re-appear, thus having to lower it more than my current 3/4. I guess I will have to suffer and save sum money to afford bigger rims and lower profile tires. Thanks for the help guys.
