HeC,

I have a 91 reg cab/long bed with 5.2L V-8. I have just received a complete set-up to lower my Dakota. I purchased it from www.sporttruckdirect.com . Includes Belltech 2" drop spindles for the front, and shackles and hangers for the rear (made by Western Chassis). This gives the 2" front drop and the ability to drop the rear 2", 3", or 4" total. I also added the Doetsch Tech Nitro Slammer shocks at all 4 corners. Came to about $ 540.00 total. I will be doing the installation myself this weekend. It only took 3 or 4 days to receive everything.
Visit their website; or you can call them as well. Send me an e-mail if you wish to discuss how it goes.

Just in case anyone's still looking for this type of info, I completed the drop of my '91 std cab longbed. After disassembling the front end, I found that I was shipped the wrong spindles (the bore hole for the tie rod was too small). They sent me model 2600 instead of 2605. The only difference is the tie rod bore hole.

Okay, so once the correct parts were on hand, the job took a couple of days. I did not remove the bed, but I do recommend use of an air hammer to get rid of the rivets holding the rear leaf spring hangers.

All instructions provided (by Bell Tech and Western Chassis) were straightforward, although somewhat simplified.

All in all, the conversion went well, and I am happy with the results. The truck now has the stance I was after. The front is 2 inches lower and the rear is 3.5 inches lower, giving the truck a lowered, yet level, appearance. The handling is much tighter, with far less body roll, and no perceptible increase in roughness of ride. In other words, it feels very close to stock except for the reduced lean when cornering.

I hope this is helpful to anyone looking to lower an older Dakota.
