Subject: Rear Leaf Spring Questions
IP: Logged

Message:
I was thinking of removing a leaf out of my leaf springs just to soften the ride and to level the rear. I know to take one of the middle springs out and ive looked at how to do it. My question is whether or not that small of a drop will need an axle shim. I'm only looking to drop it maybe 1-2 inches but I don't want to screw up anything serious. Any other tips or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

You will lose some load-carrying capacity if you remove a leaf.

if you're worried about being able to carry heavy stuff, you may want to look into a leaf hanger instead. One of the easiest & cheapest way would be to add a 1" - 4 " lowering block to get it lower.

But it sounds like you want a softer ride anyway. You won't have any problem or need to shim the axle if you are only taking out one leaf. I had a Beltech Mono leaf for a while w/ a 3" flat block. The frame needed to be C-notched to clear & it was about 2" off the ground on 18's. But no problems.

Yea, I'm not worried about payload capacity, I don't tow anything anyways. My main concern was how much it would drop, if I needed to do anything else(shims, shocks, etc.), and I wanted to know if anyone has any tips on how to do it. Any tips would be great, or if anyone knows a place where I could get a step by step with pics then that would be tops. Thanks for all the help.
