Message:
I have a 1991 dakota and want to lower it. In front I want to lower it about 2 inches. I have found 2 inch drop spindles and 2 inch drop coils. Which would give better ride quality and be easiest to install on my own? Also lowering 2 inches in the front what would be the max wheel and tire combo i could fit without having to cut the fenders? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanx

drop spindles use stock springs & shocks so ride quality is same. moderately dificult to install, most expensive

drop springs are generally stiffer, most people get lowering shocks too which are generally stiffer as well, but for a 2" or less drop I think stock shocks are OK.. however you may desire stifer shocks anyways to minimize slamming your suspension when you hit bumps. easier to install than spindles - plan an afternoon to do both sides

the *easiest* and *cheapest* way is to cut some of your stock spring ; use an air powered cut off wheel or sawzall with a meatal cutting blade.. thats what i did to my 91. this will make the spring a little stiffer too, but not objectionably so. for my 4cyl truck I cut about 3/4 of a coil from both ends and that gave me about a 2" drop. I would recommend not any more than that - as it is my bump stops have only about 1.5 inch clearance before they hit

btw I used summit sport truck lowering shocks, they were pretty good, but after 2 years are getting soft - can't complain for the price

I also used a 3"lowering block from Summit in the rear; I used the generic block kit (~23$) and would reccomend spending the extra 20$ to get the Dakota specific kit

email me for more or post back here.. I have some pix too
