Just started to lower my Dakota 99 and got into a little trouble. It is about the bolt that runs through the leaf spring through the hangers and shackles. Are they threade through the brackets that hold the leaf spring or do you just hit them out with a hammer. tried to unloosen them but will not budge. I need help quick. thanks

guys at my custom shop were workin on lowering my truck today, in the back they had to cut the heads of the bolts off and then pound the hell out of them with a hammer to get them out, and my shocks were rusted to dthe frame in the front and they had to use a blow torch to cut them out, what the hell is up with my dakota, lowering it shouldnt require a frickin saw and blowtorch.... and it shouldnt take 8 hours for the front and 8 hours for the back, wish us luck with my damn cursed truck

I had to take the springs with the hangers still attached and have the bolts pressed out at a machine shop. Then you have to find new bolts...they are grade 8 9/16x4 or 4 1/2 I think. Good luck finding them. I was lucky enough to have a shop here in town that specializes in truck springs that stocked the bolts. When you put it all back together put a little anti-seize on the bolts. That will help if you ever have to take it apart again.
