I bought some 2" hotchkis drop coils, was wondering if you have to use a spring compressor to change them out. hope to hear some good replies.

When we replaced the ones on my dakota, we just supported the frame with a jack stand. Put a hydraulic jack under the control arm, took loose the upper ball joint and brake hose bracket from the upper control arm and lowered the spindle/lower control arm down to release the spring pressure. Of course we removed the shock first. We took loose the upper ball joint because the jack wanted to lift the truck off the jack stand when trying to compress the spring enough to clear the lower ball joint from the control arm (03 QC v8). Just look at your control arm and you will see what I mean. Hope this sheds a little light on your situation. Enjoy the new look and look into a slightly shorter tire in the future as you might encounter the occasional tire to fender contact.

whats even easier than taking the ball joints out is removing the bolts on the back of the control arm and putting the spring in that way.But if your dakotas anything like mine it probably needs ball joints anyways.almost have to change em with every oil change.
