Subject: hotchkis question

Message:
I just did a 3/3.5" drop on my dak and was wondering why the rear in so low. I have 2" a-arms and a 1" spring in front and the hotchkis springs in back. Shouldn't the front be lower than the rear? The truck seems to sit level, sometimes it looks lower in the rear. I want the rear slightly higher. I know I can remove the tabs to raise it, but I don't want to. Has this happened to anyone.

Did you measure your truck before and after to verify the 3/3.5 drop?

I did hotchkis all around and I got a 2/3.25 drop. My truck still has a slight front lean.

If you got a full 3" in front you should have nearly the same tilt you had before the drop. If nothing else satisfies you, you could get the 2" drop Hotchkis springs and go to a total 4" front drop.

Did you get the correct front springs? R/T springs on a 4.7/or6-4cyl truck would cause that.

I did measure the truck before and I was just waiting for the springs to fully settle before I measure it again. The back measures at 4.5" drop and the front at 2.25" drop. The back is an inch lower than it is suppose to be and the front is .75" higher. You measure from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel well right? Could the problem be the weight of my truck? It doesn't have a/c or any of the extras that would weigh the front end down, but it is a 5.2L.

After 8000 miles my setup hasn't changed (settled). I measured my truck from the ground through the center of the wheel to the wheel well. You have more drop than design in the rear and less than design in the front, that's why it sits more level than you wanted.

Wow 4.5" in the rear! Hard to believe for just the Hotchkis springs. RC, CC, or QC? Did you leave all four spacer plates in? Factory or Drop Shocks?

If you left the factory shocks in, changing them out might be helpful (and desirable) I would also consider calling Hotchkis, they are generally very helpful.

Again if you don't want to raise the rear you probably have to do something to drop the front some more.

I did leave all 4 plates in because I figured that it would just be 3.5". And yes, I did buy new shocks, the bilsteins from Hotchkis. Maybe I'll just buy the 2" coil springs for the front. Other than that I'm happy with the suspension, it handles great with not to harsh of a ride. I'll have to give Hotchkis a call and see why it's so low in the rear.

I have a 97 RC, shortbed, 2wd
