Subject: Just dropped the rear end, uneven look..
IP: Logged

Message:
I just installed 2 inch blocks in the rear end to level out the truck. Man it looks great, but now the front end needs to be dropped maybe 1/2 - 1" to look even. Since i dont want to be "too low" whats the best/affordable way to even it out again? COuld i cut a very tiny bit off the front coils? would this change the ride a whole lot? thanks

just cut about a 1/4 of a coil off. that will give you 3/4-1 inch drop. that little won't affect the ride. i cut a coil off and mine rides the same.

well, if you don't want to cut them, just buy some 2" lowering coils. go to www.suspensionmax.com and buy their 2" drop coils for the v8 Dakota. They are only $50 plus freight. They are good quality coils for only $50.

BTW, how do those blocks ride? Are they a rough ride?

I forgot to mention, those 2" coils will make your truck sit level. They will only give you a 1" drop up front

In my opinion, it rides pretty much the same. I noticed a tiny bit of wheel hop burning out around a turn = ) but thats about it. I just ordered those springs, 3" drop tho because i want to get lower .. than i also ordered 3inch blocks for the rear. Theyre so simple to install.. plus my ubolts are long enough so i wont need to change them out again. Is it bad not having bump stops in the front? Where can I get some new shorter ones?

R/TArnie,

your truck sits at only a 1" rake from factory (1" higher in the back). If you bought 3" aftermarket coils, you are only gonna get lowered 2" in the front and with the 3" blocks, you are gonna sit just like you sat with the stock fronts and 2" blocks on back... get what i am saying?

now this would be different if the application was specifically for a R/T.

I know this post has sat for awhile, but there is something that must be said.
RTArine; 3" blocks in the back won't work that well. I tried it last summer. The axle (because the 9-1/4" rear has larger diameter axle tubes)will ride on the subbers (or very, very close) with NO LOAD. I've got 2" blocks on my R/T and I had to remove about 3/4 of the material on the snubs so that it would ride OK. With load it's hit and miss.

hey all you dakota nuts, i got a '53 chevy truck and i am getting a new frame built for it. my front suspension is going to be set up for a dakota cause right now i envie all of you with the independent suspension and disc brakes. besides the mustang 2 is old and almost every hot rod has that set up. my question to you is where can i get the complete front suspension. junk yards out here are very slim pickings and i dont want to buy a whole truck only to part it out. i need the whole ball of wax that goes with the front suspension. thank you. sorry for the long message.
