Just in case anyone was wondering, yesterday I was able to haul several trips worth of 1500 lb. loads in the back of my truck without any problems. The weight was located over the wheels and against the tailgate since I have a tool chest in the back. I still had enough room for suspension movement on the bumpy road where my friend lives.

Who said a dropped truck can't still be a truck!

Off topic I know but do you have any pic of your truck with the 275/40/17. I have the same set up as you and want to go with wider tires. any problems with them?

Unfortunately I am running snow tires on the 92/93 Dakota rims right now. No pics, but those tires look damn good. No rubbing problems, even in the hardest corners or full turns. The tires do not stick past the fender flares. I put 12000 miles on my Dunlops from this last Spring to Fall. I also highly reccomend the Dunlop SP 9000s for a daily driver, they have just the right amount of stickyness and treadwear.

255/55 R 17

Width 10.04"
Sidewall height 5.52"
Overall height 28.04"
Circumference 88.10"

275/50 R 17
Width 10.83
Sidewall 5.41"
height 27.83"
Circumference 87.42"
87.42"
So the 275 is only less then 1/4" smaller in height.
