Help me out here guys. What have you guys done to your gas tank to raise it above the frame rail? I have an 02 Qaud Cab and the tank hangs about an inch below the frame rail. I know what to do about the other crossmembers and what not but im stuck on this gas tank issue. I live in california and have heard that it is illegal to put in a fuel cell on a smogged vehicle because they mesure something from then fuel filler neck. Can anyone help me out here? Thanx alot guys, take it easy

well, i would've said fuel cell, but i guess that's not possible for you. i haven't looked to see how to lift it up, and i know ppl with s10s that've done that, but dont know how they did. and dont know any dakotas that did it. i would try lookin at what holds the tank and try to figure away to raise it.
ONE thing that WILL definitely work, (but it is pretty DAMN drastic) is... section the tank to make it less tall. in case u dont know, that means cutting a section horizontally all along the tank and welding it back together without that section (so its less deep).
I'm SURE there's an easier solution, but i just had to throw that out there. I'd actually like to find out how to move it up too, for the distant future when i'm bagged. Good luck...peace
Anyone else...??

I have herd of devious customs selling drag proof gas tanks. Which is a gas tank that sits 1"-2" above your frame rails and bolts in the stock location and uses all the stock hoses. Im not sure if they make them for the dakota but its worth a try to give them a call.

couldnt you just cut the floor of the bed out and raise the tank then just make a new filler tube that leads the new path to the gas door

drop the tank then raise the mount (you will have to cut a rail out of the bed)that gives you about an inch above the frame

For me cutting the bed out and raising it is out of the question. I have a quad cab. Bed is shorter and the tank runs about to inbetween the front and back doors, where they meet then pretty much all the way back to the axle. Looks like its pretty much as high as it can to too. I might have to look at those drag proof tanks. They are like 450 though....... Thats alot of money that i dont really have to spend being that im 18.... Im going to check on the fuel cell issue because im not totaly sure about that. The quad cabs have a HUUUUUUGE tank from what i can see. So hopefully i can use a fuel cell because its alot cheaper than that drag proof tank. Hopefully ill figure this all out soon...
Thanx guys
