Subject: 22's question

Message:
Whats up guys, I think I found a good deal on some 22's but i have a couple of questions. First off I want to be 'one of' the only people with a bagged R/T on 22's so I need to know all the specs on how to do this. On a 22x8.5 rim what offset/backspacing do I need in order to just tuck tire, b/c i know it would be a mission to tuck rim. Also i am planning on doing some body work. I think i am going to roll the fenders, if thats what you call it. Oh, and call me stupid, but where the he11 are the bump stops?? What cutting would i need to do in order to accomplish this.Remember I am not trying to lay frame, i just want to bag my truck and not see any gaps or spaces. Any information would be greatly appreciated..
thanks again
Mike

Mike,
The bumpstops are on the control arms. On this picture, the bumpstop is red and is in the center where it is sticking out of the control arm. They are very simple to install/uninstall - they are held in with one bolt and nut.

I dont know much about bagging, but I do know if you lower your truck and have rubbing problems, you would need bigger bumpstops. But here's a picture of a DJM control arm

Here's a picture of the bumpstops actually out of the control arms. Thye are the small red things next to the coil springs.

And Mike, any luck with the pictures of the 20's? Thanks,

-Matt

Don't worry about it...i know how sh*t can go. Just let me know when you have them. I leave tomorrow and will be back the 27th. That leaves almost 2 weeks, so take your time getting pics up.

And as for the bumpstops, if you take them out.....lets just say that your tires will be rubbing when you gas, brake, hit bumps etc. The tires will probably just be laying on the fenders, but I'm not positive about that. I have never tried it. But if you use bags, it might be a good idea then. But i know nothing of bagging. Hope this helped,

-Matt

I would go around 30 to 40 mm offset to make sure my wheel and tire tuck. This might make your tires rub on your frame when cutting sharp however. Just remember the more positive offset, the more they tuck in, the cooler they look, and the closer they are to the frame. Lower offsets (also called stickie outties) will be out further from the suspension and frame and will not come as close to rubbing with the wheel cut lock to lock. I would get as low profile as I could and try to test fit before buying cause it will be a fine line. For example I have 255/30/20's on a 20x8.5 with a 40mm offset. I have no trouble tucking wheel. When I cut lock to lock the tire tread comes within an inch of rubbing frame so assuming there was such thing as a 255/30/22 you would be right on the frame when cut lock to lock. I would go around 30mm for a some what tucking look but also enough room to negotiate turns. Also this is a given offset for an 8.5 inch rim, I haven't seen many 22's this wide. Just remember, even with a 40mm offset, if you run a 10 inch rim they will stick out. Offset is the distance from the dead center of the rim the mounting plate on the wheel bolts up. So a 10 inch rim, dead center would be 5inches and you would add 40mm to that which is around 1.7in. So from the design or mounting spot of the rim, the lip would stick out 3.3 inches. The backspacing on that would be roughly 7.7in. You ideally only want about 2.5 inches of wheel sticking out past the hubs. To get this you get 40mm on 20x8.5. Half 8.5 is 4.25 plus 1.7 is roughly 5.9in backspacing which leaves 2.6 inches on the face side. Oh yeah bumpstops are important on stock suspension cause they are the last resort and impact the bump when the suspension completely bottoms out. I have seen people take these out and lower their truck till the bare metal frame rests on the axle. Very nice ride (sarcasm). On a bagged truck, it would benifit you to remove these so you yould sit lower.

Ha, i was, and I probably will once I get a serious offer. But while I have it now might as well keep fixing it up, make it look even sicker. You know how it is, cant make decisions and always stuck on what to get and what not to and what to sell.. anyway, lifes full of too many decisions.. So ima keep it until someone wants to give me what I want for it. But for now. drag on!!

The only problem i see is that with a offset like that is i would think the tires would rub the cr*p out of the inner wheel wells when your turning. mine are so close as is. good luck though. let me know if i can help. i have a great company that can set u up, for the best price.
