Terry, are those just stock rims? Where did you get the .375 spacers? How much were they? I really like the look.

Nice lookin' drop! I bet it handles alot better! Only bad thing is it rides kinda rough but i prefer handling over ride quality. I'm looking to get some Hotchkis leafs for my R/T. How much were yours? Thanks,

-Matt

Wow, nice, thats exactly the look I want for mine.
Couple questions:
Do you have the V6? (heard it makes a dif )
Did you have any trouble getting an alignment? ( heard some shops won't touch a lower job )
I have the extended cab so does anyone thing I'ld have to go with 4" rear drop to get level?

thx

Matt,it is quite a bit rougher than stock springs but it handles great, sits really flat on corners.
I can see myself crashing it,between the trucks handling and Grand Turismo 3 its hard not to try to take it to the limit.I'm 32 you would think a person would grow up,but what fun is that?

I got the springs through Summit Racing
part #HSS-2404
Parts Total: $251.95
Shipping Charge: $5.00
Handling Charge: $7.95
Total Order: $264.90
you might be able to find them cheaper elsewhere but I've been ordering through them for 15 years and they have always been good to me,and I get my stuff in 2 days here in WI.

DangDave, yes I have a 3.9l and I wouldn't buy srings from a place that doesn't have engine specific springs ie. v6 srings or v8 springs.

I didn't have any trouble getting it aligned with only 2" drop in front, it came right to factory specs. The shop that did it is into that $hit, the owner has a s-10 thats dropped pretty low, so they had no problem doing it . Thats in a town of 6000 people so you should'nt have trouble finding someone to do it.

I would not go with a 4" drop in the back if you want level. If you think mine looks level just go with 3" in the back.
Your xcab is more weight and may drop a little more.
Right now I have a 2.900" wheel well gap in the front and a 3.600" ww gap in the back thats less than 3/4" difference, if I went another inch lower in back it would be 1/4" lower than the front which in my opinion would not look good.
Also lowering the back transfers weight which can bring the front up and you don't want that on an already asslow stance.

I suggest you measure your wheel well gaps to see what you have and figure out what you want.
Before I did mine I put weight in the box to lower the back end to see what it looked like and to see if it brought the front up,and went from there.

make sure you measure the wheel well gaps and not from the fender to ground the gaps are what makes it look level or not.

on level ground
Take a straight edge across the top of the tire centered with the hub and measure up to the bottom of the radius on the fender lip to get the gap.
I bounced the front and rear up and down so I knew that they were settled to normal ride hight and level from side to side.(turning into your drive way or pulling into your garage can compress the suspension and it may not return all the way so you'll get inacurate measurements).

The Hotchkis leafs have 4 adjustment plates 1/4" thick each so you can fine tune it to the hight you want. I used only one plate so I can go 3/4" lower if I want .

sorry for the long post, trying to help others out.
this forum has given me alot of help so I gotta give it back.

Hey Terry
What kind of shocks did you use on your setup?
Also, this may be a dum question but were the spacers required for your type of setup and why?

woody,I used beltech nitro drop shocks all around.
I first had 2" blocks in the back and the shocks were good for that, better than the stock ones.
Now with the Hotchkis leafs it feels like I could use more rebound dampening, due to the added stiffness. On some bumps my a$$ experiences zero G's ,so I would kind of like to try some adjustable shocks,or Bil$tein$.

No I did'nt need the spacers, just did it for a different look, and of course wider is better.

I recently lowered my truck (2000 CC 3.9L) with the complete hotchkis setup and have been looking for shocks... I'd love to get the bilsteins but the pricetag is a little cost prohibitive. has anyone used doesch tech shocks? (not sure on spelling) If so, how are they???

Thanks! and if you'd like to see what it looks like... http://www.geocities.com/lenny187/dakota.html

Terry, did you find that the length of the stock lug studs gave you enuf thread with the lug nuts or did you have to go with longer studs? I have been thinking about getting some spacers for the rear only of my truck.

I got about 8 to 10 turns on the lug nuts with stock studs ,which is about a half inch of threads.
I figured that was enough considering that
lugnuts(without the caps) are no thicker than that anyway.

but I would not go any thicker than 3/8 spacers

CletusJones,

A friend and I run the Doetsch shocks and both of us have been pleased with the performance. One thing though, the top holes for the rear shocks are larger than the stock bolt so the shock does not stay in place. Two fixes for this problem, use a larger bolt or put a sleeve in the top shock hole. Both fixes cost less than $2, so the problem is no big deal.

Go with the Doetsch shocks!

Eli

I had the same problem with my beltech shocks, I don't know why they dont make them the right size.
They must be for several different applications.
It's a simple fix ,so no big deal.

Terry, did the 2" coils give you a full 2" drop? I rather get them over arms because of the price, but I heard they sometimes vary in height.
