Subject: Air Bag question, please help!
IP: Logged

Message:
I want to get bags for my dak, but i dont know how to go about doing it, or if its even the best idea to do. this is my problem. i want to be able to adjust the height, but not slam it. i have no interest in being about to sit it on the ground, just maybe give it a 2 or 3 inch drop all around. ive seen a few guys around here cut the bed out to make room, but i dont want to have to do that. i live in a region with a lot of hills and mountain driving, so i need to be able to raise it up sometimes. can anyone tell me what i should do here? also, how much modification would be needed if i get the 20 inch r/t wheels? thanks a lot guys!

You didn't specify if its 4wd or 2. I usually suspect 2 but since you mention uphill and mountain driving i'm unsure. A 2wd would be pretty easy. You will need brackets for the front and bags. You will need shock relocators unless you go with the shockwaves which are higher than hell. With this setup you will sit stock height aired up and 4-5 inches lower aired down. You could get only 3 if you lengthen the bumpstop but I don't see any reason why so just get the full drop out of the bag. In the rear you should get air assist kit, the bracket that mount on the side of the frame since you don't want to cut into the bed at all. Buy your lowering parts for the rear and lowering it to the lowest point you ever want it to sit. You can do this with block, hangers, or shackles. I would probably take out the overload leaf too. Then mount the bags and brackets with the bags aired out, so when you air up it will push the frame off the axle and give you lift. Keep in mind that you need to align it at one static psi point and anything above or below that will put you out of align, the more or less pressure, the more or less your outta align. It you get creative and remove your spare tire you could probably get away with hiding your valves, compressor, and tank as not to cludder up your bed but make sure you get weather resistant parts. Good luck with your project.
