Subject: bout to install 3-4" drop
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm about to put on my 3" DJM arms and the Belltech 4" leafs in the rear on monday. I got the Nitro Drop shocks also.

Just thought I'd ask for any tips. I'm gonna be able to use a lift so that will definately help.
How long could I go w/o a alignment? a day or so?

thanks for any help

kotadude, since you have it that far apart you should seriously consider upper control arm bushings(polyurethane) and upper ball joints.
If you have to replace these later you will need to allign it again.
These are both known to be problems, my upper ball joints were junk since it was new(made clunking noises). when I dropped front I replaced everything ball joint were loose and full of rust.
No more clunking with new ones, and they are greasable(MOOG)

you should be able to go a day or 2 without an allignment depending on how many miles you put on ,but I wouldn't go over 100 miles, tires cost too much to be smearing them on the highway.

If you do the ball joints, the easiest way that I have found to replace is----

1) take off cont. arm

2)run a file across radiused side of rivits to find center.

3) center punch center

4) drill- start small .250" and go up from there I think mine twisted off at about .360" .

drilling seems to work better than grinding.

Leaf springs are much easier, just a straightforward replacement .

remember to torque all suspension components with vehicle unsupported (on wheels )

You're probably hitting the snubbers, my 2 inch rear drop left me about 3/4 of an inch before they hit the axle so mathematically, it sounds right....... slice them a bit

yeah i added a 2 inch block 2 days ago and now it's sitting right
You're right, my bump stops are about 1/2 inch from the axle and it bumps the hell out of me.
I guess i'm just gonna cut them in half and see if that gives me some more travel.
so now my truck's sittin 3/5 i guess......3" DJM arms which lowered it a FULL 3 inches and the Belltech 4" coils that only lowered it nearly 3" and then 2" blocks
I'll get some pics tonite.
