What up guys,
I've got a quick question for you guys since i know little bout lowering my truck. I've got a 98 dakota sport, 2 wheel drive, extended cab, 17 in. wheels wrapped in 255/55 scorcher red tires. Is it possible to lower it without rubbing? If so, how far, what is a good brand, and how much dough? I'm so lost when it comes to lowering my truck, but i know a lot bout most of the other stuff, i appreciate all of your replies.

Screw Fords and Chevy's,
Brian

So long as your just doing a standard lowering job (not bags), dont worry about rubbing. To me Dakotas need the extra wheel, like 20's, to fill all the wheel well. I have a 99 RT with a 3"-5" drop on top of the factory lowering of 1"-1", basically a 4"-6". I havent had any problems other than having to get a C-Notch. I went with Western Chassis, and spent $399.95. That price was after a discount from a friend who owns a suspension shop, plus take into consideration the cost of installation if you cant do it yourself. Oh yeah, and shocks which range from 39.95 - 99.95 a piece.

Good luck,
Brian

17's shouldn't rub at all. Like Brian said, it all depends on how you you go, I have an 87, and I'm doing a 4/6 drop. I bought the shockes for $31 a peice, and I went with werster chassis drop spindle and rear hangers for $349.99 plus shipping. Now here's where I may have messed up, I got AIM drop coils, and blocks. Haven't installed them yet, but I've heard a lot of bad things about AIM. I'll post my experience after I install them. I found out that I'm gonna definately need a C-notch so I'm looking into one of those as well. All together I'm right around $600 for total. So it hasn't been that expensive. Shipping is what is killing me most. Hope I've been of some help. Also you will save money if you do the work yourself.

I really appreciate all of the help guys!!! So what you guys are saying is that no matter how low i go it shouldn't rub, even around turns??? The width of the tires is what really concerns me. Like i said, i know very little bout lowering my truck, but you guys have given me some useful info. I'm also going to do some research on the net to learn more. If you all have any other info that you think will be useful please keep on postin messages for me. (i don't want to go with the bags...are blocks good???) Anyway thanks again guys!!!

Fords and Chevy's suck!!!
Brian
