It can be done. BUT!!!! It can be very unsafe for you or any parts the spring may want to chew up. Be safe, rent a spring compressor. If you try it without one, use a chain around the spring to control any wild trips it may want to take. Be safe, good luck.

seriously, people like yall scare the sh!t outta first timers, which is a good thing.

there is no spring compressor needed if done right. ive never used one, but b/c of people telling me that the energy is stored up, the first time i did a suspension, i chained it up to make sure. everysince then, ive never even changed it up.

take out the shocks, put the floor jack under the control arm, undo the nuts (sway bar needs to be undone on the passenger side), lower the jack down till the control arm is as far as it will go. at this point there is no pressure on the spring, you can pull it out by hand.

i wouldnt give out bad info, ive changed out springs on two cars, and 4 trucks (including my own dakota). keep safe, dont do anything stupid!

Hey blakdak..i have the same control arms on my truck..and just like the above post you shouldnt need a spring compressor...put the truck on jack stands..remove everything from the lower arm...lower it out of the way..and like he said..the spring will just pull out of the seat
just my .02

First off neither of you mentioned taking the lower ball joint loose to get the spring out , Neither of you mentioned the part where you have to do this which is the Dangerous part of taking the spring out Kotart13 you never mentioned putting the truck up on stands , If your going to tell someone how to do it and "ITS SAFE" Atleast give the whole procedure to do it !

the spring isnt dangerous to take out though, it seriously falls out, because there is no pressure.

he's not an idiot, he knows he needs jackstands, i was simply trying to answer the question "do i need a spring compressor?", which i answered no.

lower balljoint? you mean the thing i pounded on with a sledge hammer? lol, ive used a balljoint seperator in the past (twice actually), i found taking a hammer to them much easier.

once again, he asked if he needed a spring compressor, i answered with what i felt was true. if you have any questions, ill be happy to answer them, email me at kamezzle13@usa.com, the whole procedure shouldnt take more them 4 hours tops!

thanks for all the info, as far as needing a spring compressor i asked because i heard that was the hardest part, if u have full details on installing them i would love to hear them, ive never done this before but im in a car club who would help me out and most of us are pretty literate about this stuff just havent done it before, all ive done is lowered the back of my friends blazer with blocks, which wasnt tough at all.

Thanx kotart13..once again..i stand next to your post..sorry joeyzzzzz...being a nissan tech must make you a master at dodges too??..lol..j/k...but...like he said..some things are the obvious....and one thing i must add...BLAKDAK01..cut the steering stops off of the djm arms..if not your turning radius will blow..and you will tear up the lwr ball joints.(at least i did)..this is not noted in the instructions...and djm will not replace them..(found this out the hard way)
