Alright, just as i was getting ready to order my 4" DJM shackle/hangers and 3" DJM coils for my 1999 Dakota R/T, a body shop told me that i cant even lower it 4" in the rear. He said that my body and frame are only like 3" apart from each other and they would rub if i lowered it or i would have to cut the body to make room.

I have seen many R/T's lowered 4" and 5" in the rear. I NEED HELP!!! someone that has lowered their R/T or Sport at least 4" or someone who just has experience in lowering trucks, help me please!
Thanks alot guys
Matt

I think he was refering to a c-notch. This is used to cut a 2" gap on the frame above the Axle to prevent hitting it on the frame. I don't have an RT so I don't know if you can go that far, but many people have RT's on here and I'm sure someone can help.
My 93 was lowered 4" in the rear and never hit the frame, just so you know.
Hope that helps.

A 4" drop in the rear doesn't require a c-notch. Neither will a 5", however, it couldn't hurt anything if you notched you frame. Most simple c-notches are only a gusset that bolts or welds to the outside of the frame to add strength to the portion of the frame that has been cut. The super c-notches are for the bagged trucks that want to lay frame, which will require cutting the floor of the bed. Take you truck to a different shop...I'm sure you will get a 2nd opinion.

Unless it's been lowered before you should have a lot more clearance the 3" in the rear. You will need to remove your rear bumpstop and replace it with a much shorter one though. Should be able to do 4" without c-notch, but it will be close and ride quality will suffer. You will bottom out in rear over almost all bumps unless you do the c-notch.Hope you have different shocks as well because the stock shocks can't handle more than a 1" drop.

I wouldnt go more than 3" on the back of a r/t , If you do.. like said above.. you will bottom out on every little bump 2" is perfect if you ask me , Add a little taller tire I went to 275/55/17 on the back and it really fills it nicely and makes it have a better stance . Theres not alot of room for the rear axel on a r/t to drop it to far before it hits the frame , I didnt put my new bump stops on the back (the shorter ones that came with my kit) until 2 days after i did my 2/2 drop and it hit the factory bump stops on the very littlest bumps , Whats the factory stops 1 1/2 inches ? So the way I see it another inch ontop of my 2" even with new bump stops would hit quit often !

alright, i'll probably just fo with 3" in the back BUT, the guy told me that my frame and body were 3" apart from each other. Well, why do they even make 4" drops in the back for the R/T model? I'm confused now. I prefer 4" in the back but i can go with 3" in the back.

The frame and body have nothing to do with droping , Your droping the whole assy body/frame lower with the suspension , Your not dropping the body on the frame

ooohhhh ok, lol. i'm a dumbass! lol. Alright, well, he said that i cant drop it more than 3" in the rear unless i cut into the frame (which i dont wanna do). I'd like it to be lowered 4" in the rear but w/out cutting in the frame. And i got 3" coils for the front which would give a 2" drop for the front.

the rt's are already lower by 1 inch factory so if you do a 3 inch drop it is 4 inches from a normal daks stance if you see what i mean.
