Check out pics of new custom toolbox for my 02 QC...

http://www.dotphoto.com/go.asp?l=randallwise&AID=549817&Pres=Y

I had a box made that wouldn't take up too much space on that little bed yet still be functional. It has a light and I've since wired a 12v accessory plug inside. Very high quality and I'm very pleased.

Let me know what you think.

Very nice looking box. Tell us the specifics, ie, dementions, cost, lead time, place to order.
Having bought an 02 QC, I know the feeling of VERY little storage, and full sized boxs are too large, taking up to much bed space.

Thanks, Bill

Dimensions of the box:
61" wide above the rail (so as not to stick out past the cab) and 2.5" tall (low profile)
1st step is 51.5" between the box rails and 8" tall (I left 4.75" between the rail and the box on either side so I can slide boards or, in my case, hockey sticks, as well as still be able to access the tie down loop on the bed)
bottom step is 42" between the wheel wells and 4" tall.
The box is only 12" deep so it doesn't take up a lot of precious bed area and is 14.5" tall. That leaves me w/ close to 6" below the box to slide things under. The dimensions seem small, but once you open it up, there's a surprisngly large amount of room in there.

After spending over six months trying to find a box that would fit well in the QC, I went custom. Because it was custom, the cost was substantial. $550. Now that I have it, I don't regret it at all. The quality of the box is stellar and it fits just right. The fact that it was wired with a light, came with a custom aluminum tool tray, all just sealed the deal. My mechanic was so impressed he said he's going to order one for his Ram.

Once I committed it took only two weeks to ship out. After you decide what you want, the company will fax you a CAD diagram of the box so you can verify it's exactly what you want. If so, sign and fax back and it goes into production.

I've sinced compared my box to Delta, Husky, etc. and the difference in build and finish is noticiable. Mostly in the aluminum. This is a high quality product with strong, thick sheets used.

Rob Underwood was my sales guy and quite nice. Tell him I sent you! ;)

Let me know if you need anything else. And if you decide to buy, let me know what you go for! You won't regret it...

Phat,
Did they provide you with a drawing number that I could give them to reference? After looking at several boxs, your design sounds perfect. I checked out a box made by UWA (I think)but it was only 9" deep (top-bottom)which to me is too shallow. I have checked with several local auto parts and local HomeDepot stores, they dont have a clue/cant find catologs/dont give a $h!t, I guess. Send it email if you prefer. How do they handle payment?

Thanks for your time, Bill

I do have a reference number. When I get home I'll send it over to you.

The UWS box you are looking it is where I started, too. I kept the 12" dimension and then went from there. You won't be dissapointed with the box. I know your pain, I went to dozens of specialty shops trying to find a decent box and you're right, nobody had a clue!

Look for the ref # I send you and then call Rob Underwood!

Looks great!

I finally posted some pics of my Highway Products toolbox.

Of course I managed to loose 26" of bed length but gained a whole lot a storage space. It looks like your design reached nice compromise between bed size and box size.

I have to agree with everything said about Highway Products. Great customer service, quick fabrication, and top quality construction. Rob is the man!

What's really goin' on?

If I can ever remember, I'll post the shop drawing of my toolbox.

Highway Products is not cheap, but the fact you can order custom designs makes it well worth the $$$.

What's really goin' on?
