Subject: 4-wheel ABS?? Yes or No???>>>

Message:
I have on order an '01 QC 4x4 4.7/auto/LSD/3.92. I've decided not to get the 4-wheel ABS option based on cost (500$ option in Canada). However, I read an article in Truck Trends last night talking about the Dak 5.9 R/T (along with Nissan s/c, S-10 Xtreme, and Tacoma S) and it's poor brake performance (60-0 in 215ft,while other around 140-160ft). It only had the rear-wheel ABS. In the article they suggested to get 4-wheel ABS. Maybe there are other factors that contributed to the poor braking #'s for the R/T in this article, but it has got me thinking.

What do you guys think?? Any of you forgo the 4W-ABS option and regret it?? Is it worth getting??

Since I put the order in only a few days ago, I can probably change it if I have to.

Thanks,
Cheers

Get it. Don't think twice. My truck doesn't have it, and I wish it did. The nice thing about 4 wheel ABS is that it allows you to maintain steering control while under max braking. It probably won't come into play much on dry pavement, but on wet it can save you.

I was almost in an accident in my previous vehicle ('96 VW Jetta GLX). The ABS allowed me to steer around the accident that happened right in front of me...I was so close that breaking glass from the minivan in front of me showered my car as I passed by. Without it, I would have lost steering control and plowed into the minivan going about 50 mph. As it was, I was able to be DEEP into the ABS and steer around the accident.

I went with ABS on my 2000 SLT. I had it on my previous Ranger, and I believe it might have saved me once or twice when I was doing stupid things. -will

I did not order it, and haven't missed it. Didn't have it on my '92 F150 (same setup -- rear wheel anti-lock only) and never had a problem.
I guess if you've had it before you would miss it ... if you never had it -- you wouldn't!

I would recommend it. I got it on my 2001 QC. Haven't had the truck but 3 days so I haven't put it through any test yet. Basic braking is very smooth and even though. I have driven/owned several small trucks over the years and have experenced the back end going out from under me during sudden stops on wet/slick pavement. Not a pleasant experience. This is the 1st vehicle that I have purchased that does have this feature on it. Hope not to have to use it but glad to know it is available if need be. Just wish it was a standard equipment item instead of an extra!

I have it on the rear only on my 00 slt 4x4 and I'm glad I have it its saed me from a few sliding accidents from having to hit the brakes because people for soome reason pukk right in front of you or don't pay attention. I would have to say go with the few extra bucks now can save you a lot in damage later.

Is it possible to convert a 2 wheel abs to a 4 wheel system?
