What's the latest date you can place a factory order for an '01? Been holding back but think I'm about ready to "go for it." Have I waited too long? Thanks.
P.S. - Nice website you have here. Heard about it on www.neons.org. Visit us fellow Mopar enthusiasts over there sometime.

Take this for what it's worth, but my dealer told
me this past Monday (4/23/01) was the last
day to order. I squeezed in with an '01 QC 4x4
Sport/LS/3.92/TH.
You not be too late, but since some dealers
put a few orders through before deadline
without any name on them, maybe you could
find one of these and have the order codes
changed before it gets built.

Why wouldnt you want a '02? You'd think with each passing year, they'd only get better. :\

DC won't begin a build of an '02 order until probably late July (at the absolute EARLIEST), and possibly as far off as September.
I can see why anyone would want to get those last-minute orders in.

I forget the URL, but believe it was for a UAW web site:
Special Order DAKs - too late, order had to be in at the factory by 4/14/01
DAK Order - has to be in the factory system by 5/1
2002 DAKs start building 7/27/01
The site also mentioned that allotments per dealar may influence how late that dealer my place a order.

One reason is that apparently the '02s will be decontented slightly...and I certainly don't expect them to be any cheaper. I'm sure there will be some cool new options though.
Also, it's not like the '01s were the first production year.
Anyhow, I guess I lucked out if I was still able to order up to 4/23/01 (here in Windsor, ON).

Apparently stuff like power outlets in the centre console will no longer be standard, but rather an extra cost option. Other similar stuff like that...
...take it for what it's worth, but I got this from a very good source of mine. Since my source is pretty loyal though, I don't know much more than that...other than expect to see some cost cutting features like this.
When I mentioned that I may wait for '02, my source winked at me and said "get an '01."

Did your source say anything that would make you want a 2002 Dakota like new features, more power (the not released "hemi") etc?

Honestly, I don't know. All I know is that my source (which is a really good friend of mine) "suggested" I get an '01. To me that means that there shouldn't be anything significantly better with the '02, however things can change pretty quickly I guess. I am potentially getting an '01 (i say potentially until it gets here and i drive away with it...but it's ordered and under my name...just not counting my chickens...).

Thanks for you help Darkapple. I'm in the same situation. I want to buy a '01 dakota but will most likely wait until the '02 just to see if there are any major changes.

My dealer just told me yesterday I had two weeks to get a 2001 Dakota order in. Is he full of it? Will the 2002 still have $2000 rebates? When can you start placing orders for a 2002? Thanks for any help. There are over 100 new Dakotas on the lots at dealerships w/in a few hours drive of me and not 1 is a 2wd. I need to order but will not do it for less then a $2000 rebate. If they bring the Solar Yellow back I would wait for a 2002. If not the Amber Fire is unique enough for me.
