Subject: Factory Foglight Replacement
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey all,
Long time no talk. I just have a quick question and I know it may have been answered a few other times, but I searched and there wasn't any posting with my exact question.

So my factory fog lights finally died after 5 years and I need replacements. How hard would it be to use the factory switch and wiring on aftermarket fog lights??

Also, if I get the blueish/white fog lights, then I want to have the same effect on my headlights, any suggestions on the headlight bulbs that are blue/white colored?

Thanks.

I dunno about your problem but I had a fog light burn out and I was wondering how hard it is to replace the stock one. Whether I would have to get a total new assembly or whether I would just have to replace the bulb. I am assuming you can just replace the bulb.

Using the factory wiring/switch would make life much easier for you when installing them. You'll just probably have to cut the connectors that plug into the stock lights off and hardwire right into the aftermarket one. I would find out the rating of the relay and the fuse for them though. Is the relay for the stock lights rated at or higher than the current rating for the aftermarkets? Thats probably the only thing you have to worry about. You might have to tweak the bracketing a bit to make aftermarkets fit, that shouldn't be a problem.

Here is what I did: After replacing bulb after bulb, I got sick of the stockers, so I went to my local WalMart and bought a set of HID wanna be fog lights( 4" like stocker)for around 30 bucks.
I saw someone had mentioned to cut the wires, don't! Spend a couple of extra bucks and buy a wore splicer/connector, I prefer 3M. This will enable you to keep your factory connection while connecting your new lights to the existing wire without cutting. This connector, lets you slide in your new wire on one side, and lie nice and flat over fac. wire, crimp, tape if you would like and your done. You can find these at any good electical or even major hardware chain like a Lowes or Home Depot.
