Subject: 98 dakota keyless entry
IP: Logged

Message:
I've searched and searched and have come up with nothing, apparently the local dodge service writers and parts departments are retarded and don't know what I am talking about and apparently don't know the difference between a factory keyless entry system or a normal alarm, all venting aside:
I'm trying to get the horn to honk when I lock my truck using the factory keyless entry. I've found numerous entries on how to turn it on/off for 99+ trucks but the technique is not working on my truck.

example:

Thanks in advance guys!

Same Dak '98 CC SLT with factory security system... Horn beeps when you lock the doors by pressing the lock button on the remote.

I would like to change the setting to Lock the doors and Set the alarm on the first press of the button, then sound the chirp/beep if pressed again. Sometimes I don't want the chirp, like when comming in late at night, and then other times when there are punks around it would be nice to sound the chirp just to let them know they have to disable tha alarm before stealing the sound system or the truck.

Looked on many sites but no information found for the '98. If you find it please post here for all to read.

sorry bout that but it's one of those pet peeves.

if i sat in the parking lot and blow my horn, folks will get pi$$ed at me. yet some of these people seem to get off on this, they even point there arm at the car like it's a TV remote. and they don't care if somebody is walking past there car when they blow the horn.
Pleez if youre going to blow your horn park far away from people. you don't wqant me to blow my horn at you when you walk next to my car so don't do it to other people.

No Dealers...

Thats the whole idea of this site, is to help each other out with information that may help save a miserable trip to the dealer.

Usually a trip to the dealer requires that something be fixed or replaced that wasn't broke before you went or had nothing to do with the problem you went there with.

The dealer scam, there's a recall on this, its free money for us, your alignment is out, you need an oil change, its been xxx miles you know you should change this and that, now what did you come here for !!!?

Well i got this out of a manual for a '98 Caravan. Doesn't do anything for mine...possibly because i've had the worst luck with my dakota. Sorry to everyone who has one but i hate mine. Matter of fact when my payments are up i'm goin back to the bowtie. BUT back to the auto lock and key fob.

This is for the Auto Lock:
1. Close all the doors
2. Place the key in the ignition and turn the key between the off and on posistion for a total of four times ending on the off posistion.
3. Press the driver's side power door lock button to lock the doors.
4. You will hear a single chime (that i didn't hear) when programming is completed.

This is for the keyless entry:
This makes it beep so you can find it in a parking lot.
1. Press the lock button for 5 to 10 seconds
2. While the lock button is pressed press the unlock button.

And again to make myself not look like a complete idiot. I got this out ofa caravan book so maybe its different for the dakota. I would've though it would have been the same procedure sence all the keyless entry's are almost the same for those 3 years.

Has anyone figured this out? I just got a used fob off ebay. I called the dealer to ask them to set it up for me and I made the mistake of telling them i bought the fob used, and the parts guy of course went on telling me that I have to order it from them, and that they can't program it. So basically I just want to call and make an appointment for them to program the fob for me without asking if the fob I bought is compatible with my truck. How do I find out if this fob will work with my truck? The P/N number is 56021903AA if that helps.
