First time Dodge owner, will be taking possession of a 03 Dakota ExCab 4.7L 4x4 Auto in Jan and have a few questions.Have been looking over this site for a few months and have noticed the two main problems with this truck are with the Ball joints and the rotors/brakes.With the ball joints since they do not come with grease fittings is it possible to inject grease thru the rubber boot with a grease gun(needle adapter) to try to increase the life or are they just poor quality?
With the brakes is it the rotors that warp or the Pads themselves that are contaminating the rotors and causing the vibration?
Have decided after 15 yrs of driving standard(which I prefer) to go with the auto box this time, the standard is just to much of a pain in the city now a days with all the stop and go driving during rush hr.Seems to be no matter which manufacturer you go with all the automatic overdrives are crap.At work I have installed remote filters for the tranny's thru one of the cooler lines and was wondering if anyone can tell me which of the lines running to the cooler is the feed and which is the return? The remote filter ,looks basicly like a engine oil(hydraulic)filter, seems to keep the fluid cleaner longer, most pan style filters I have delt with look more or less like a screen.
Would have liked to have seen the Dakota with a 3rd door like some of the other brands,I need the longer box for hauling dirt bikes and the box on the quad box seemed just to small, also would have liked to have seen the truck with a Diesel in the 4.2-4.5 liter range.
Thank for any help you can give me and sorry for such a long post.
James.

Not to burst your bubble, but if you are worried about trouble with your new Dakota, you will have tranny issues. Dodge tranny's are notorious for failures. I wouldn't worry about any other problems unless they occur.
With any luck, just give your Dak regular service and you won't have any probs.
Good luck.

Wr280F...buying any new vehicle is all "the luck of the drawl" .Just because some have problems don't mean you will. There are not many perfect vehicle's out there. If you do the recommended maintenance and don't beat the living sh*t out of it,you should be fine.

I have no brake or trans problem's 26,000 miles and there has not been a day that I have not kicked that tranny into the race mold. You are going to love that 4.7....Just drive it and don't worry about it.
