It seems like ever since it has gotten colder here in illinois I have been having problems with my tras. It does not want to shift at the correct rpm. It seems to want to rev in the same gear until i let up on the gas. This is only when i am not at full throttle, but when i kick it in the ass it shifts normally. That is except on one occation; i hit it and she pulled like normal until i hit 5300 rpm / shift point. Then it seemed to go into neutrel and reved to about 6500 rpm. IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!!! When I backed out of it she returned to normal. Thankfully no damage was done to the motor! The operating temp of the motor was up to normal on all these ocations. Does the trans heat up slower than the motor? I guess so, could this be it??

I have not adjusted my bands and have not replaced the fluid since I bought her. I have put 35,000 miles on the truck since and am planning on changing the fluid, adjusting the bands and adding the shift kit all at once this spring.

Clogged filter? misadjusted band? Bad fluid?

Please help!

Thanks
Nathaniel

My does the same thing. Same tranny same year. Look at Speedtweaks.net under tip and tricks. There is a TSB on this it is the the Throttle pressure govenor sensor in the tranny. I have not replaced it but I heard that this is the problem. I think its about 75 to 80 dollars for the part. Anybody else have this problem or solitoin. Thanks

Where do you live ? I live in Plano ,10 miles west of Aurora.

Try to adjust the TV cable , they are real touchy with-out a shift kit.It will do that if you try to move up the shift point by adjusting the TV cable. Also check the fluid level. Yes it does take longer for the trans to heat up in the winter in IL it may never reach 85 deg.
P.S. when you do the shift kit you will want to turn up the line presure about 3 turns

I have already adjusted the TV cable. But this is the first time i have heard of turning up the line pressure. How is this done? I would look in my haynes but my wife did some "cleaning" last week and it is now gone.

I have checked the fluid and it seems to be normal. What is going on with the two marks on the stick? One says "in neutral with the engine running and hot". The other says "full". I thought you always had to have the engine warm and running for a proper check?
I did however see bubbles on the stick. My level seems to be good, but the bubbles tell me arreation.

Thanks,
Nathaniel
