Subject: 4 cyl mileage

Message:
I have a 2001 Dak CC 4.7l. I was looking to get another older 4 cyl Dak as a second commuter vehicle, as I tend to do alot of city (stop and go) driving and where I live, gas prices are some of the highest in the country. The gas mileage on my 8 cyl is killing me.

I could get a small car, but I'm just a truck guy.

Can anyone tell me what kind of mileage to expect out of a stock 4 cyl Dakota (I'm thinking of getting something in the early 90's or so).

As a non - member I can't post this on the 4 cyl post. That is why I'm posting this here.
Thanks.

I have a 98 2.5 r/c. I get 25.3 mpg. But the cat is removed and it has no more pcv sys. just a breather on the crankcase. The whole breather air box and all that garb is gone too. Have a cone typ washable air breather hose clamped on top of the t/b. It all works good.Don't think u can do these mods in all 50 though. It's not very strickt on emissions down here.

I have a 99 rc 2.5 with an intake and exhaust and get right at 20 mpg every tank. Would think the mileage would be better with the lighter gen 2, just a guess though.

With a mix of city and highway I get 20.5-21 mpg. If I do all highway (75-90 mph) I will get 22 mpg. If I drive it hard and dont use 5th gear much I get 18 mpg. Towing 1500 lbs 100 miles highway, then 80 more miles mountain towing I got 16.3 mpg. I have a '97 Sport 5 speed regular cab with a relocated IAT sensor, otherwise stock.
