Subject: rear axle squeak
IP: Logged

Message:
Folks,

My back axle makes a squeak when I hit any bumps on the road -- even small ones. Very quiet on smooth roads. It's not a big deal, but I'd rather do without it.

What squeaks in a rear axle (with limited slip) and is there a quick way to take care of it?

Thanks!

bounce not jump in the bed see if it makes the squeak.its most likely the leaf springs making that noise. maybe one of the plastic shims came out?

Could possibly be the sway bar bushings - if yours has a rear sway bar. Mine squeak a little bit.

My 2000 did the same thing. Take it to the dealer. They should replace it for free. It's actually a TSB that DCX has out. They forgot to install isolaters between some of the leaf springs. Mine turned out to be a hanger bushing that was damaged, but they did the TSB fix anyways. Good luck.
