Subject: computer wanted for 91 dak

Message:
I have a 91 dak with a 318, 4by4. I'm really sure that my computer is no good on my truck. It will sometimes idle reall nice but as soon as your hit the gas it wants to rev up to are 2000-3000 RPM, i put it on a diagnostic computer and all the sensors seam fine. The timeing jumps around when it tryed to idle high. The computer is all i can think it would be. I was wondering if anyone has a computer they could sell me or any ideas on what else it is..

have you checked your idle speed control on the right side of the TB. Remember that these computers have a 10% learning curve on them and if something slowly goes bad it will learn itself. also try turning your key forward to the run position three times like this
off-run-off-run-off-run and watch the check angine light count the number of blinks it does like 1-2-3-4-5 pause 1-2-3-4-5 this is the end code list and means nothing also check to see if the distibutor is tight hope this helps

I've tryed that trick before. It never spits out any codes. When you adjust the set screw for the idle, the motor just adjusts it back out. Me and the licenced mechanic I work with can't find anything wrong any of the sensors. The only thing we can think of is to put the timeing light on it and see if the timeing is actually jumping around. if the timeing is actually jumping around it has to be the computer. I thought I might try a used computer.

though the timing may be controlled by the computer check the distributor to see if that is loose. It still can change the timing on the engine. Mine came loose and retarde 3 degrees I got real bad gas mileage my lowest was 7 I had several different mechanics check it and found nothing wrong with the sensors or computer I even checked the cat but none of it helped I finally got around to checking the timing and that was it. the stock setting is 10 degrees i set mine for 12 and have had no problems.

also how are you adjusting your idle speed control? The service manual says to start it and let it run for a few seconds then shut it off and let the sensor re adjust then unplug it start it back up and adjust for 2500rpm then shut it off and hook it back up if it continues to have problems that hole unit maybe bad. let me check to see if there is a way to check to see if it is bad.

anothe idea is that the coolent temp sensor is bad this controls many different things timeing is one of them. it is located on the front of the manifold on the same side that the idle speed control is on if you have airconditioning it would be under the airconditioning pump.

Aslo have you replaced your o2 sensor? if you havent you might want to try that and also unplug the vacum line on your air pump diverter valve this will make it only pump down stream and not upstream into the exhaust manifold.

I hope this helps ill check out some other things in my service manual and get back to you if you want email me at Aerobatpilot03@aol.com

have you replaced the timing chain? that might be stretched to the point that the valve train is behind and not timed right.

Just another idea

the timming chain is tight. Distributor is tight too. I went to dodge and they said it should be the computer or that idle motor. they did't have a way to test them othere than puting it on there computer to test the whole system.

I would start with replcing the ISC motor then go from there. Another thing you might want to do is check on the back of the TB where the pcv valve runs and T's off into the TB check to see if it is full of gunk. I had that plugged on mine and was haveing almost the same tendency after reving it. it would hesitate then jump to 2-3000 rpm let me know what it is when you do find out

i finally got the cash and bought the idle control motor. It solved the problem. I took the old one a part and there was some sort of spring missing, that holds two contacs apart when your holding the pedal down.they would drop apart when you banged the pedal.
