Just got my truck back some b--ch ran a red light and hit me head on. Any way here is an idea this week i ordered a set of r/t rims and 265/70 courser htr's here's the thing i am putting them on a 4x4. Great idea guarunteed no one can notice if it's 4-wheel drive or not. Get rid of your r/t especially if you get snow their is no reason to have a 2wd truck unless it is a s-10 and i used to own one. Sorry about your ding front valance's are expensive. just my two cents

haha, thats wack pat. Keep your wonderful r/t and grab a set of stock rims from an older dak and slap some a/t-snow tires on it. In fact, see if pat here wants to sell his old rims or go to ebay and pick up a genII set for 150 or so. Basically do the right thing, which is exactly opposite of what pat here has done. The only reason you should have a 4x4 is if your going to use it, then again if I previously owned an s-10 I would probly jump right into a 4x4 regardless of my needs hah

Tires are the best thing to do for better driving in the snow with a R/T. The stock tires SUCK!!! in the snow. If you want to drive your R/T in the snow, and keep the factory rims, get some BFG G-Force KDWS tires. You will have to get a shorter 255/50/17 size, but they are great tires for performance, and hold thier own in the snow. I've driven my R/T in the snow no problems. Just learn to feather the gas AND brake which means start slowing down sooner. But, better tires are the key to better snow driveability. throwing a little weight in the bed will help as well. You're R/T can handle the snow with the right tires and driver.

Pat, there is nothing about the 4wd drive train that helps you turn in the snow and ice. Using the same tires and braking system the 4x4 would have locked up the fronts and did the same damage to Tinker's R/T. The 4x4 will help you get going but it doesn't help you stop or turn. You may be able to turn while accelerating better in a 4x4 but just regular steady throttle turning would be very similar. It's all about the tires, the 4x4s come with better tires for snow but just change the R/T tires in the winter and you'll do great!

Damn straight Smitty!! 4X4 is for those who don't know how to drive with 2 wheel drive. I got some good tires. After doing a few donuts, i realized i need some weight in the back too. i didn't even need any last year, what a lame excuse for winter that was.

I got a 99 2wd. Drove it for the first time in the snow in Oct. Slid, and hit a sign. Cost the insurance company almost $5,000. I actually learned to drive in the snow growing up, but it had been awhile. It was my own laziness' fault. The night before I knew it was going to snow, and thought I should go get some tubesand. Then I thought, naw, I'm comfy on the couch, I'll get it tomorrow. Wish I would have picked my lazy butt off the couch. Now I got 420 lbs in the back. Ma be overkill, but I ain't taking anymore chances.

For those who said 4x4 are for sissy's The thing is i can beat your r/t's and go off road. By the way i had a hay day last year pulled out too many 2wd trucks but made a good 20 bucks on a couple. So if you 2wd sissy's want to give us 4x4 MEN some money go do your donuts and get stuck

hahaha, you so funny Pat. I'll just keep my 2wd driving arse on the road and won't have to worry about anything. Do you think you can beat my R/T?? What you got?? I've seen plenty of 4x4's stuck, and when they get stuck, it's worse than a 2wd, because the 4x4 owner thinks he is invincable so they drive like maniacs. 4x4's ain't for sissies. If I wouldn't have bought a R/T, I'd be driving a lifted 5.2L manual tranny 4x4. But 4x4 doesn't help in snow or on ice as much as some owners think. Throw a set of chains on my 2wd(and yes I woudl put chains on my R/T if needed) and I can go most places a 4x4 can go and make it out as well.

4X4 is better in the snow. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. Yes, anyone with any sense can keep a 2wd on the road. A year ago, I had one. There was about a half inch of snow on an entrance ramp to a highway, and I BARELY made it up. Now I have a 4x4, and in a similar situation, I was going up a hill, and had no problems. I even stopped a few times on the way up to go around vans, stangs, and 2wd trucks that were doing nothing but spinning. They had no chance, no matter how good they were at driving, there was no way they were going to make it up.

I agree with HSKR, old my 93 v6 has been places that some 4x4 guys could not believe. It's all about keeping it realistic knowing that ANYTHING can stick you. When you have to drive old logging roads you get wise.

Wow I didn't expect this kind of turn out but do any of you have a stock R/T front bumper skin by chance??? Mine is still scratched... and by the way if I had it my way I would have a 4x4 for the winter(i.e. our total of about what 2 weeks of bad weather all together here) and my R/T for all the other beautiful MO days... LOL that ought to spark it some more... LOL

Tires make all the difference. The BIG advantage on 4x4's other than all four tires helping to move the truck, is the fact that the tires that come on 4x4's stock, or even usually the ones put on for replacements are better than 90% of any 2wd trucks tires in the snow. The R/T is a street truck and usually has street tires on it, not snow tires, but with the right street tires, the R/T can even handle good in the snow.

well all I can say is 4x4's seem to be rolling around a helluvalot easier up here in DE with 9' of snow. As I said above I have an r/t and love it, wouldn't trade it for a thing. It's like back in the day when we were kids, did you go for a atv or a dirt bike... just diff. preference they both kick ass. Anyhow, right now I can't afford a set of tires so I have a plywood frame with about 250lbs of concrete drying in it out back, I bent some rebar for handles and figure that will do till I can get tires. problem solved, cheers to all the 4x4 and 2wd dak owners! have a blast in the snow.
