Subject: Hotchkis Install Help
IP: Logged

Message:
I just bought the Hotchkis front 2 inch drop coils and the Hotchkis 3 inch drop rear leafs for my 99 slt with the 3.9, 5 speed. I was wondering if anybody who has installed it had any tips or tricks when installing the kit? Also i just recently bought new stock shocks for it (didn't think i would do the drop so soon), can i still use this shocks or do i have to change and if so what do you recommend?

The stock shocks suck horribly on the Hotchkis drop. I drive around with them for about two days before I installed their custom tuned Bilsteins. The difference is night and day between the shocks. Get yourself a good set of Bilsteins or Toxics, but some sort of "drop shock".

Tips, hrm. I can't think of any off the top of my head. Their very simple photocopied 100-times over instructions aren't bad. The leafs are super easy and take no time at all. Really straight forward. Those just take some time to torque 120ft/lbs while under a dropped truck -- remember to drop them while the springs are loaded.

The front coils are your basic coil install. Just be sure to use a chain around those fukers and the control arm. The bumb stop in the front can be a pain since it's on there with rivets. Just drill those out.

  • Be sure to torque everything to spec.
  • Recheck everything.
  • Read the entire set of instructions before starting.
  • If you second guess yourself on doing something, check the instructions again.
  • Buy some beer to entice a friend to help you, it will go a lot quicker.

Any questions on the install, just post 'em here.

I have recently installed my Hotchkis myself, except for the coils, and with the toxic shocks it was the worst ride on earth. I would never recommend getting the Hotchkis drop without the custom Bilsteins. The Hotchkis TVS w/ Bilsteins makes the truck handle amazing.
