That's what they are for bud. Just make sure you are smooth with the power and they will work jsut fine... Do not jerk the line...

yes, jsut pull slowly... pull up the slack in the tow rope slowly (idle) then shlowly get into the gas, do not jerk the rope and you will not break anything.

Chris,

Definitely good advice, but, have you ever seen this kind of tow strap, that's made to stretch some at first?

Last summer, on S. Padre Is. (TX), the tow vehicle was just spinning in the sand as well as the one that was stuck. So he backed up, and kinda 'hit' it. Now I was just waiting for sh$t to start breaking when the slack went out.

I was so suprised, it stretched, and then slowly , with the momentum gained, pulled the truck out, without ANY jerking at all! I was shocked.

Just thought I'd share this one, worked good in the sand here in S. TX on the beach.

Yeah, you're talking about those 'snatch-em straps'. They are designed to work like that. They are the straps with the stitched loops on the ends, no metal hooks. I've used them for years they work great without the jarring shock and possible damage that a chain creates.

Not only that but when you break one it's not nearly as dangerous as a big logging chain when it comes flying towards your tailgate or onlookers.

Based on the nature of the question I made the assumption he was going to use something like a strong rope rather than a snatch strap.

But yes with a snatch strap you want some momentum to be absorbed by the strap so it ca release it slowly.

Chris,

Certainly agreed. As I said, good advice.

I just wondered if anyone had seen this 'snatch strap', I've only seen it once, and was kinda wondering if it was an anomyly(sp?). It really probably wouldn't be that great on ice, as you really don't want much momentum without chains. Works good in the sand though.

Cheers
